Nourishing Herbal Dishes for Postpartum Recovery

After giving birth, if the mother is healthy and does not have any postpartum complications, she can choose to consume nourishing herbal dishes. These dishes have mild properties and can help improve digestion, nourish the blood and Qi, and promote the recovery of reproductive organs.

The following nourishing herbal dishes can be consumed by mothers without any abnormal conditions. However, it is important to follow the preparation and consumption methods.


(1) Huai Yam Porridge: Wash and slice 100g of huai yam, rinse 200g of rice, and cook them together to make porridge. Cook until the ingredients are soft and well-cooked.

Effect: Improves digestion, strengthens the intestines, and stops diarrhea. Suitable for all postpartum women to consume.


(2) Coix Seed Rice Porridge: Rinse 150g of coix seed and 250g of glutinous rice, and cook them together with an appropriate amount of water to make porridge. Add a little brown sugar when consuming.

Effect: Strengthens the spleen, nourishes Qi, and eliminates dampness. Especially beneficial for postpartum women who previously experienced edema.


(3) Wheat and Glutinous Rice Porridge: Rinse 60g of wheat, remove the pits from 15g of jujubes, and rinse 30g of glutinous rice. Put them all in a pot with an appropriate amount of water and cook until the ingredients are soft and well-cooked. Add brown sugar when consuming and eat it in multiple servings.

Effect: Strengthens the spleen, nourishes Qi, stops sweating, and calms the mind. Suitable for all postpartum women, especially those who experience excessive sweating and restlessness.


(4) Peanut and Angelica Pig Trotter Soup: Wash and cut open 4 pig trotters, wash 50g of angelica, and wash 250g of raw peanuts. Put them all in a pot with an appropriate amount of water and simmer.

Effect: Nourishes Yin, enriches blood, moisturizes the intestines, promotes bowel movements, and increases breast milk production. This soup has a mild nature and is suitable for all postpartum women, especially those with low breast milk supply and constipation. Consume the soup within the first 3 days postpartum, and after 3 days, consume the soup, meat, peanuts, and angelica together. If diarrhea occurs, stop consuming the soup.
