Introduction

Huangqi Hongzao Goji Tea, as the name suggests, is a tea made from three ingredients: Huangqi, Hongzao, and Goji. Huangqi Hongzao Goji Tea is a well-known popular anti-cancer tea. Drinking it regularly can help maintain vitality and enhance immune function.

1. Ni Zhumo: "Huangqi is a medicine that strengthens the lungs and spleen, consolidates the defensive qi, and dispels wind and toxins. Therefore, for those with yang deficiency who frequently perspire, it indicates that the superficial defense is weak and the pores are not tightly closed. Huangqi can consolidate the defensive qi and stop sweating. For yang deficiency in the interior, when the pathogenic qi does not manifest as sweating in the early stage of typhoid fever, it indicates that the interior is deficient and the righteous qi is insufficient. Huangqi can replenish fluids and assist sweating. For disorders caused by wind invasion that affect the blood vessels and cause the limbs to not follow commands, Huangqi can nourish the tendons and bones. For abscesses and ulcers that do not heal due to deficient yang and failure to consolidate, Huangqi can generate flesh and muscle. It can also promote the healing of yin-type sores that do not develop due to deficient yang. (Bencao Huiyan)

2. Zhang Jingyue: "Huangqi, because of its mild taste, specializes in regulating qi and reaching the surface. Therefore, it can strengthen the primordial yang, fill the pores, treat fatigue and injuries, and promote muscle growth. It can induce sweating for those with qi deficiency and difficulty sweating, and stop sweating for those with superficial dispersion and excessive sweating. It can stop bleeding and treat hemorrhages by solidifying qi and stopping bleeding. Therefore, daily blood loss depletes qi. It can treat diarrhea and dysentery by solidifying qi and eliminating sinking, so it is called an elevating agent." (Bencao Zheng)

3. Jia Suoxue: "Huangqi has a warm nature and can raise yang. It has a sweet and mild taste. When stir-fried with honey, it can warm the middle burner. It mainly strengthens the spleen. Therefore, for internal injuries and qi deficiency, it is used sparingly as an adjunct to ginseng, to supplement the middle burner and boost qi. It can treat spleen deficiency with diarrhea and dysentery, long-term malaria, vomiting of blood and intestinal bleeding, long-term blood loss, and pale pustules. It primarily nourishes the lungs, so it is often used with renshen to consolidate the surface defense and treat spontaneous sweating and night sweats. After ulcers and sores have healed, it can promote tissue regeneration. For persistent non-healing abscesses and carbuncles that need to be expelled from the bones, salt-fried Huangqi must be used. For smallpox patients who do not develop due to yang deficiency, it is important to assist the qi on the surface, and it is also suitable for raw use." (Yaopin Huayi)

4. Zhang Shiwan: "Huangqi enters the lungs to consolidate the surface and stop excessive sweating, and enters the spleen to treat chronic suppurative abscesses. In the "Benjing", it is mentioned that for long-standing abscesses and ulcers, draining pus and relieving pain, and for severe wind-related skin diseases, hemorrhoids, and fistulas, it is used in its raw form to dispel evil blood. Although it has a warm and tonifying nature, it can also promote blood circulation through the blood vessels without causing stagnation. It can treat qi deficiency with excessive sweating and spontaneous sweating, as well as skin pain, making it a medicine for the superficial muscles. It can treat coughing up blood and soften the spleen and stomach, making it a medicine for the middle burner. It can treat typhoid fever with a weak pulse and deficient kidney qi, as well as infants who are prone to wind invasion, fever, and spontaneous sweating. It is used in its roasted form to solidify the deficient defensive qi. It is a medicine for the upper, middle, and lower burners, as described in the "Benjing" for tonifying deficiency. For smallpox, it is used in the Baoyuan decoction to treat spleen and lung deficiency heat, and in the Danggui buxue decoction to treat blood deficiency heat. It is considered a holy medicine." (Benjing Fengyuan)

Huangqi's role in tonifying the three burners

1. Li Dongyuan: "Huangqi tonifies the three burners and strengthens the defensive qi. It has the same function as Guizhi, but Huangqi is sweeter and milder than Guizhi, and it is not pungent and hot. However, Guizhi can promote blood circulation and break up blood, while Huangqi can nourish qi. Also, when Huangqi is used together with Renshen and Gancao, it is considered a holy medicine for relieving dry heat and muscle heat. When the spleen and stomach are deficient, lung qi is depleted, and Huangqi is used to warm the muscles, nourish the skin and hair, and strengthen the pores, without causing sweating, to nourish the primordial qi and tonify the three burners." (Quoted from "Bencao Gangmu")

2. Wang Haogu: "Huangqi treats qi deficiency with excessive sweating and spontaneous sweating, which indicates its effectiveness on the surface. It also treats skin pain, so it can be considered a superficial medicine. It also treats coughing up blood and softens the spleen and stomach, making it a medicine for the middle burner. It also treats typhoid fever with a weak pulse and tonifies the kidney's primordial qi, making it a medicine for the interior. It is a medicine for the upper, middle, and lower burners." (Tangye Bencao)

3. Zou Shu: "Huangqi acts on the three burners in the human body, so it can tonify the middle qi. Therefore, it is called a tonic in the "Benjing", and it nourishes the lungs and stomach in the "Bielu". It is effective for those with weakened middle qi, weakened spleen earth, and downward dispersion of clear qi. Its skin has a concentrated flavor and thick texture, and its strength lies in the skin. Therefore, it can directly reach the skin, muscles, and protect the defensive yang, enrich the superficial defense, and fill the pores. This is its specialty, so it is regarded as a miraculous medicine for treating various superficial deficiencies." "For those who are hungry, fatigued, and have weakened spleen yang, weak qi, and fatigue, as well as long-term malaria and deficient ascending qi with persistent cold and heat, it is given the Buzhong Yiqi Tang, which is effective in all cases. This is because Huangqi is used as an adjunct to Shengjiang and Baizhu to restore the spleen yang and circulate the major qi of the middle burner." (Benjing Shuzheng)

Huangqi and Wind-related Disorders

“Huangqi has a sweet and slightly warm taste. It is primarily used for treating long-standing abscesses, chronic ulcers, and wounds that drain pus and relieve pain, as well as for wind-related disorders, dysentery, hemorrhoids, and fistulas. It tonifies deficiency, and is effective for various childhood illnesses. Another name for it is Daisan. It grows in mountains and valleys.”

In the Chinese herbal book "Benjing", it is recorded that red dates have a sweet taste and a warm nature. They enter the spleen and stomach meridians and have the functions of tonifying the middle burner and replenishing qi, nourishing the blood and calming the mind, and harmonizing the properties of other herbs. Modern pharmacological studies have found that red dates contain abundant nutrients such as proteins, fats, carbohydrates, organic acids, vitamin A, vitamin C, and various amino acids.

Nutritional Analysis

Jujube can enhance the immune system and inhibit cancer cells: Pharmacological studies have found that red dates can promote the production of white blood cells, reduce serum cholesterol, increase serum albumin, and protect the liver. Red dates also contain substances that can inhibit cancer cells and even transform cancer cells into normal cells.

2. People who regularly consume fresh dates are less likely to develop gallstones. This is because the abundant vitamin C in fresh dates can convert excess cholesterol in the body into bile acids. With less cholesterol, the probability of stone formation decreases.
