It may also be accompanied by vaginal pain and thin white or yellow greasy tongue coating, and a rapid pulse.
[Method of Modification]
In this formula, Atractylodes lancea is combined with Gentiana scabra and Poria cocos to clear heat and dry dampness. Poria cocos, Lonicera japonica, Taraxacum mongolicum, Chrysanthemum indicum, Gentiana scabra, Schisandra chinensis, Prunella vulgaris, and Sargentodoxa cuneata clear heat and detoxify. Bupleurum chinense, Cyperus rotundus, and Forsythia suspensa regulate qi and soothe the liver. The combination of these herbs has the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, drying dampness and stopping discharge, and regulating qi and soothing the liver.
This formula has relatively few herbs for dispelling dampness. To enhance the dampness-dispelling effect, one can add Plantago asiatica and Alisma orientalis. If there is a foul odor, Artemisia vulgaris can be added. If there is frequent urination with a short and red-colored urine, Liu Yi San can be added. If there is constipation, Rheum palmatum can be added. If there is itching in the genital area, Sophora flavescens and Dictamnus dasycarpus can be added.

This formula is commonly used in modern times to treat acute vaginitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and cervical erosion, with symptoms including fever, lower abdominal pain, excessive yellow and foul-smelling discharge, yellow and greasy tongue coating, and a wiry and rapid pulse.
