It dispels wind and dampness, soothes tendons and activates blood circulation, clears heat, eliminates phlegm, and stops coughing. It is mainly used for rheumatic arthralgia, joint and lower back pain, bruises, fractures, asthenia, bone steaming and hot flashes, hemoptysis, lung heat cough, and burns.
Original Morphology of Zhuye Shen
It is a perennial herbaceous plant that can grow up to 1m tall. It has a short rhizome with numerous fibrous roots. The stem is slender and branched. The leaves are alternate with short petioles; the leaf blade is thin, ovate-lanceolate or lanceolate, measuring 5-10cm in length and 1.5-3cm in width, with a short or gradually pointed apex and a rounded base. The leaves have distinct parallel veins and short leaf stalks.
The umbel inflorescence is terminal or opposite to the leaves, with 2-40 flowers; the inflorescence stalk is short, with one bract similar to the leaves at the apex; the flowers are hanging, white or pale purple, bell-shaped, about 1.5-2cm long, with 6 petals and stamens concealed inside; the ovary is trilocular and elongated, and the style is slender with a 3-lobed stigma. The fruit is spherical and black, containing 2-3 seeds. It blooms in summer.

Ecological Environment: It grows on slopes, under forests, or in grasslands.
