Summer climate is changeable, with sudden changes in temperature. In addition, infants and young children have lower immunity and are more susceptible to infections. Among them, diarrhea is the most common. Once a child has diarrhea, in addition to taking medication, proper diet regulation can also play a therapeutic role. Below, I will introduce some home remedies that can help stop diarrhea in children. These remedies can assist in the treatment along with medication, promoting better recovery for the child.
(1) Generally applicable
1. Chop 500 grams of carrots, boil them in 1,500 milliliters of water for 45 minutes, filter the mixture through a fine sieve to remove residue, and add 5% sugar. Carrots are rich in alkaline substances and pectin, which can absorb bacteria and toxins and help form solid stool.
2. Fish protein powder contains abundant high-quality protein and very little fat, making it suitable for malnourished children with diarrhea.
3. Steam or boil an apple without skin and core, add a small amount of water, and cook until soft to make applesauce. It has less irritation to the digestive tract, and the pectin in it can absorb bacteria and toxins. The malic acid it contains has astringent and anti-diarrheal effects.
4. Stir-fry rice flour in a pot until it turns golden brown, then boil it with a small amount of sugar and water. Drinking this rice flour soup can adsorb bacteria, toxins, and gas in the intestines.
5. Boil eggs and remove the shell and egg white. Cook the egg yolk over low heat to extract the oil. For infants under 1 year old, feed them 1 egg yolk oil per day in 2-3 doses. Each course lasts for 3 days and can treat diarrhea. It also has the effect of tonifying the spleen, strengthening the stomach, and stopping diarrhea. Steamed egg pancakes made from egg yolks mixed with a little flour and shredded ginger have the same effect.
6. Mash 3-5 chestnuts, remove the shells, cook them into a paste, add sugar for seasoning, and consume it 1-3 times a day. This has a warming and anti-diarrheal effect.
(2) Suitable for "food injury diarrhea"
7. Boil 15-30 grams of fresh hawthorn and 250 grams of white radish, then filter the mixture and consume it frequently.
8. Burn 2 chicken gizzards to ash and mix them with rice wine for consumption.
9. Roast 1 apple over low heat or steam it until soft. Older children can eat the fruit, while infants can drink the squeezed juice.
(3) Suitable for "damp-heat diarrhea"
10. Wash and chop 250 grams of fresh Purslane (or 60 grams of dried Purslane), boil it in water for 10-20 minutes, remove the residue, add an appropriate amount of rice, and cook it into porridge. Consume it frequently.
11. Mash 250 grams of carrots, boil them in water for 10 minutes, filter the juice, add water to make 500 milliliters, and cook it for children. Drink it frequently.
12. Put 5 grams of green tea in water, brew it with boiling water, cover it and let it steep for 5 minutes, then add an appropriate amount of honey. Drink it while hot, 3-4 times a day. This can treat bacterial dysentery.
(4) Suitable for "cold diarrhea"
13. Fry 50 grams of rice into charcoal, grind it into fine powder, and consume 3-6 grams each time, twice a day.
14. Steam 2 persimmons on top of rice, and consume them in two portions.
15. Cook 30 grams of fried glutinous rice and 15 grams of Chinese yam together to make porridge. After it is cooked, add a little pepper. Add sugar or salt for consumption.
16. Grind mung beans and black pepper into powder, consume 3-6 grams each time, three times a day, and take it with boiling water.
(5) Suitable for "spleen deficiency diarrhea"
17. Mix 10-15 grams of powdered yam with boiling water to make a paste and drink it with boiling water. Consume it twice a day.
18. Grind 30 grams of raw yam into fine powder, mix it with warm water to make a thin paste, boil it, add 2 cooked egg yolks, mix well, and consume it on an empty stomach 2-3 times a day.
19. Take an appropriate amount of rice, wash it, dry it in the sun, fry it until it turns golden brown, put 6-10 grams of fried rice in 100 milliliters of water, simmer it over low heat for 1 hour, add a little salt, and drink the soup.
20. Fry 30 grams of sorghum rice bran in a pot until it turns dark brown and has a fragrant smell. Remove the excess coarse husk on top, consume 3 grams each time, and drink it with water three times a day.
The above-mentioned remedies for childhood diarrhea are suitable for different types of diarrhea. Only by treating the symptoms can better results be achieved. Finally, I suggest that parents give their children relatively light foods to prevent irritation to the stomach and intestines, which may have counterproductive effects.
