The Versatility of White Radish: From Traditional Medicine to Delicious Dishes

White radish is a common food on our dining table and also a type of Chinese herbal medicine. It has a sweet and delicious taste, and is crispy and tender. White radish should not be eaten with ginseng and American ginseng.
 


 

  [How to Make Delicious White Radish]

  1. Stir-fried White Radish with Meat

  Ingredients: 300g white radish, 100g pork, 100g green pepper, 50g black fungus, 50g garlic, 20g dried chili, 20g onion, 20g ginger.

  Method:

  (1) Slice the radish and meat into pieces, prepare the seasonings (preferably with two green peppers and some black fungus) in advance;

  (2) Heat oil in a pan, stir-fry the ginger until fragrant, then add the meat and stir-fry, add some cooking wine and soy sauce, and then add the radish;

  (3) When the radish is half cooked, add some salt, and season with bean paste according to personal preference. Then cook it thoroughly with water, and finally add some garlic.

  Tips: White radish has the function of improving digestion and relieving cough, but it is not suitable for those with weak spleen and stomach.

  2. Stewed White Radish with Meat

  Ingredients: pork belly, radish, yellow wine, star anise, garlic cloves, salt.

  Method:

  (1) Boil the pork belly in water until it turns white and can be easily poked with chopsticks;

  (2) Cut the boiled pork belly into large triangular pieces;

  (3) Cut the radish into pieces;

  (4) Heat oil in a wok, then add some garlic cloves to stir-fry until fragrant;

  (5) Add the cut pork belly to the wok and stir-fry until fragrant and oily;

  (6) Stir-fry the pork belly until slightly browned;

  (7) Add a little yellow wine to enhance the flavor;

  (8) Add hot water (the amount of water should be the same as the amount of meat);

  (9) After adding some star anise, add the cut radish on top of the meat;

  (10) Flip the radish and meat pieces and add soy sauce;

  (11) Cook until the soup is reduced, then season with salt and serve.

  3. Stir-fried White Radish

  Ingredients: 450g white radish, 120g eggs, 40g black fungus (dried), 30g peanut oil, 4g pea starch, 8g granulated sugar, 5g scallions, 5g ginger, 2g salt, 1g monosodium glutamate.

  Method:

  (1) Cook the radish, peel and cut into thin slices, cut the scallions into sections, slice the ginger, and mix the pea starch with water to make a slurry;

  (2) Beat the eggs, add the pea starch slurry, mix with the radish slices, and blanch in boiling water;

  (3) Heat peanut oil in a frying pan, add the radish and stir-fry, then add the scallions, ginger, sugar, salt, soaked black fungus, and monosodium glutamate, and stir-fry evenly.

  4. White Radish and Pork Rib Soup

  Ingredients: 500g pork ribs, 500g white radish, salt, chicken essence, 1 piece of ginger, water.

  Method:

  (1) Blanch the pork ribs in boiling water, discard the water, and then put them in a pot with cold water, ginger, and a little vinegar, cover and cook under pressure for about 20 minutes. You should be able to smell the fragrance at this point;

  (2) Wash and cut the radish into pieces, then put them in the pot with the cooked pork rib soup and bring to a boil;

  (3) Cover the pot, reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes until the radish is cooked. Add a little salt and chicken essence before serving.
