Using Peppermint Oil: Benefits and Precautions

December 22, 2023

Peppermint oil is a commonly used medication in daily life. Peppermint oil is a colorless or pale yellow clear liquid with a special cool fragrance. Its taste is initially spicy and then cool. Peppermint oil is very effective, but many people do not know how to use it. Below, let me explain it to you.

Precautions for using peppermint oil

Peppermint oil is obtained by distilling and extracting the flowers of the peppermint plant. It is usually a pale yellow or yellow-green essential oil liquid. Its main effects include reducing fever, relieving nausea and vomiting, improving digestion, and alleviating respiratory system pain.

The aromatic fragrance of peppermint oil also improves smell and taste, and has the effect of refreshing and awakening the mind.

Peppermint oil can be used in many ways, including inhalation, massaging acupoints on the feet, air diffusion (spraying), or adding it to bathwater.

Specific methods for using peppermint oil are as follows:

Inhaling steam can relieve nasal congestion: Add a few drops of peppermint oil to a bowl of hot water and inhale the steam it emits.

Treating motion sickness: Add a few drops of peppermint oil to a piece of thin paper and inhale it.

Relieving headaches: Add a few drops of essential oil to a damp, cold towel and apply it to the forehead, or use it to massage the neck, temples, and forehead. But remember to dilute it before it comes into contact with the skin.

Promoting digestion: Massage the stomach with a few drops of diluted peppermint oil, or massage acupoints on the feet with some pure essential oil.

Bath for health: Add some peppermint oil to bathwater to help relieve gastrointestinal discomfort, nasal congestion, headaches, or menstrual pain.

To prevent adverse reactions, peppermint oil should always be diluted before use. High concentrations can easily cause skin allergies. Also, avoid contact with the eyes.
