【Introduction to Medicinal Food Ingredients】

Hen: The medicinal effect of an old hen is higher. Many people use it to nourish their bodies, especially those who are afraid of cold and have a weak constitution and cannot be nourished. An old hen can not only tonify qi and blood, but also dispel wind. According to common habits, people prefer to eat tender chicken necks (referring to hens that have not laid eggs) and do not like to eat the tough meat and bones of an old hen.

However, in terms of the effects of dispelling wind, tonifying qi, and nourishing blood, the older the hen, the better the effect. This is because an old hen has more meat and more calcium. It is most suitable for patients with anemia, pregnant women, puerpera, and those with weak digestion to nourish their bodies by simmering soup with low heat.

Astragalus: Astragalus, a Chinese medicinal herb, refers to the roots of Astragalus membranaceus and Astragalus mongholicus, which belong to the legume family. It contains saponins, sucrose, polysaccharides, various amino acids, folic acid, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace elements. It has the effects of tonifying qi, stabilizing the exterior, diuresis, reducing swelling, expelling toxins, discharging pus, and promoting tissue regeneration.

Glutinous rice: Although the protein content in glutinous rice is only 7%, it is still an important source of protein because of the large amount consumed. Glutinous rice contains a comprehensive range of essential amino acids for the human body, as well as fat, calcium, phosphorus, iron, and B vitamins.
