Nourishing the Stomach: Traditional Chinese Medicine Recipes for Digestive Health

1. Mung Bean and Euryale Seed Congee

Ingredients: 100g glutinous rice, 10g mung beans, 10g euryale seeds, 20g Chinese yam, sugar to taste.

Method:

1. Wash the mung beans; peel and wash the Chinese yam, then cut into pieces; wash and soak the euryale seeds; wash the glutinous rice and drain after soaking for 1 hour.

2. Place a pot over heat, add water, then add the glutinous rice, euryale seeds, and mung beans. Cook over high heat until the rice grains bloom.

3. Add the Chinese yam and simmer over low heat until the congee is cooked. Add sugar to taste.

4. Mung Bean and Euryale Seed Congee: This congee has the effects of clearing heat, promoting appetite, invigorating the spleen, nourishing the stomach, replenishing qi, promoting diuresis, relieving dampness, and stopping diarrhea.


2. Polygonatum and Chinese Yam Chicken Soup

Ingredients: 1 chicken leg, 20g Chinese yam, 10g polygonatum, 5 red dates, salt to taste, monosodium glutamate to taste.

Method:

1. Wash the chicken leg and blanch it in boiling water to remove blood. Rinse and drain; peel and wash the Chinese yam, then cut into small pieces;

2. Put the chicken leg, polygonatum, and red dates in a pot, add enough water, bring to a boil over high heat, then simmer over low heat for 20 minutes;

3. Add the Chinese yam and continue to simmer for 10 minutes. Add salt and monosodium glutamate to taste.

Effects:

1. Polygonatum: It has the effects of replenishing qi and nourishing blood, regulating the intestines and stomach, invigorating the spleen, nourishing the lungs, strengthening the kidneys, and relieving fatigue.

2. Chinese yam: It has the effects of tonifying the spleen and stomach, nourishing yin and moisturizing the lungs, nourishing yin and replenishing yang, strengthening the kidneys, detoxifying, and enhancing metabolism.

3. Chicken: It has the effects of warming the middle, invigorating qi, invigorating the spleen and stomach, promoting blood circulation, and strengthening the bones and tendons.

4. Polygonatum and Chinese Yam Chicken Soup: This soup has the effects of nourishing yin, replenishing deficiency, invigorating the spleen, opening the appetite, nourishing yin and tonifying the kidneys, and promoting blood circulation.


3. Tangerine Peel, Codonopsis Root, and Malt Tea

Ingredients: 3g codonopsis root, 3g malt, 3g tangerine peel, 3g white atractylodes.

Method:

1. Clean the codonopsis root, fried malt, tangerine peel, and white atractylodes;

2. Put all the ingredients into a thermos, pour in boiling water, cover the lid, and let it steep for 15 minutes before drinking.

Effects:

1. Codonopsis root: It has the effects of replenishing qi and nourishing blood, adjusting the intestines and stomach, invigorating the spleen, nourishing the lungs, anti-cancer, reducing blood pressure, anti-aging, and enhancing immunity.

2. Fried malt: It has a neutral nature and a sweet taste. It can promote digestion, invigorate the spleen, relieve liver stagnation, and is used for indigestion, distension and pain in the epigastrium, and spleen deficiency with reduced food intake.

3. Tangerine peel: Tangerine peel has the effects of regulating qi, invigorating the spleen, nourishing the stomach, and transforming phlegm to relieve cough.

4. White atractylodes: It can eliminate dampness and dryness, invigorate the middle and replenish qi, delay aging, invigorate the spleen, and nourish the stomach.

5. Tangerine Peel, Codonopsis Root, and Malt Tea: This tea can regulate qi, dispel dampness, invigorate the spleen, nourish the stomach, aid digestion, promote diuresis, relieve swelling, and improve the symptoms of phlegm-dampness constitution with easy sweating.
