  Treatment for dizziness and tinnitus: Take one or two liang of Zhu Ye Shen, one or two liang of Wan Zhang Shen, and five qian of Wei Ling Xian. Decoct them in water and take orally. (From "Commonly Used Folk Herbs in Kunming")

  Internal use: Decoct in soup, 0.5-1 liang; or stew with meat.

  Zhu Ye Shen has the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, relaxing tendons, and promoting blood circulation. It is mainly used to treat high fever that does not subside, exhaustion with bone steaming and hot flashes, rheumatism and paralysis, joint and lower back pain, dysmenorrhea, excessive menstrual bleeding, abscesses, boils, bruises, fractures, and injuries.

  "Shaanxi Chinese Herbs": "Nourishes yin and supplements deficiency, dispels wind and dampness, activates collaterals, and relieves pain. Used for exhaustion with bone steaming and hot flashes, pulmonary tuberculosis, palpitations and shortness of breath, rheumatic lower back and leg pain, sciatic neuralgia."

  Zhu Ye Shen is also known as Guangdong Zhu Shen, Shan Zhu Hua, Yi Xian Xiang, Zhu Jie Cao, Yu Zhu Cao, Bai Zi Cao, and Zhu Ye Cao.

  The rhizome of Zhu Ye Shen grows horizontally, with a hard texture and nodular shape. The roots are thick and long, fleshy. The stem is 50-150cm tall, with a diameter of about 1cm, and has more branching in the upper part.

  The leaves are papery, lanceolate to narrowly elliptic-lanceolate, 5-12cm long, 1-5cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, nearly circular at the base, with obvious 3-7 veins, and papilla-like projections on the lower veins and margins. The petiole is short.

  The umbel inflorescence has 3-10 flowers, borne on short branches opposite the upper leaves; the pedicel is long (1-)2-4cm, slightly rough; the flowers are purple; the corolla lobes are oblique, inverted lanceolate, 1.5-2.8cm long, 4-5mm wide, pointed at the apex, with papilla-like projections along the edge, and a distance of 2-3mm at the base; the stamens are hidden inside, with anthers 3-4mm long and filaments 8-11mm long; the ovary is about 3mm long, and the style along with the stigma is 3-4 times the length of the ovary.

  The berry is about 8-10mm in diameter and contains 2-3(-5) seeds. The seeds are dark brown and about 5mm in diameter. The flowering period is from May to July, and the fruiting period is from August to October.
