Baizhu Fuling Ginger Soup: Traditional Chinese Medicine for Wind-Dampness and Restlessness

Baizhu Fuling Ginger Soup, a traditional Chinese medicine formula. It is derived from the book "San Yin Ji Yi Bing Zheng Fang Lun" Volume Five. This formula has the function of warming and transforming dampness. It is used to treat wind-dampness in the hot summer, restlessness and thirst, abdominal pain and irritability, dry mouth and facial dirt, aversion to cold and wind, slight sweating, and loss of appetite.
 


 

【Composition】

Baizhu, dried ginger, Fuling, Xixin, Guixin, dried kudzu root, licorice (fried), tangerine peel, black plum, and fermented soybeans, all in equal parts.

【Functions and Indications】

It is used for wind-dampness in the hot summer, restlessness and thirst, abdominal pain and irritability, dry mouth and facial dirt, aversion to cold and wind, slight sweating, and loss of appetite.

【Introduction of Medicinal Materials】

Baizhu: Baizhu strengthens the spleen and dries dampness. It is often used in its raw form to dry dampness and promote diuresis. Baizhu has a sweet and bitter taste, warm nature, and is non-toxic. It can solidify the surface and stop sweating, and relieve phlegm and dampness. It can also be used to treat restless fetus and phlegm-dampness, and can be taken for spleen deficiency and diarrhea.

Dried ginger: Dried ginger is good at warming the middle and restoring yang. It is an important herb for spleen yang deficiency, vomiting, and abdominal pain. It warms the middle and restores yang, warms the lungs and transforms phlegm, and warms the meridians and stops bleeding.

Fuling: Fuling has a sweet and bland taste and a neutral nature. It has the functions of diuresis, spleen and stomach tonification, and calming the mind and soothing the spirit. Modern medical research has found that Fuling can enhance the body's immune function, and Fuling polysaccharides have significant anti-tumor and liver protective effects. However, it should not be taken by those with deficiency-cold and slippery essence or qi sinking.

Licorice: Licorice can tonify the spleen and qi, clear heat and detoxify, resolve phlegm and stop cough, relieve pain, and harmonize various medicines. It is used for spleen and stomach weakness, fatigue and weakness, palpitations and shortness of breath, cough with phlegm, epigastric and limb spasms and pain, abscesses and toxic sores, and to alleviate the toxicity of drugs and excessive toxicity.

Tangerine peel: It is used for symptoms such as chest and abdominal distension. Tangerine peel has a dispersing and warming effect, with a fragrant aroma. It is good at regulating qi and can enter the spleen and lungs. Therefore, it can disperse lung qi blockage and relieve chest and diaphragm distention, as well as treat spleen and stomach qi stagnation, epigastric and abdominal distension. It is often used in combination with muxiang and zhike.
