We talk about skin care every day, but why do we need it? Is it to look good or for what? In fact, good skin is not just about looking good, it also has important physiological functions in everyday life.

Protective function

The skin is often subjected to external stimuli, the skin can block these external stimuli to moderate their adverse effects on the body. In particular, the subcutaneous fat can reduce the damage of external impact.

Regulatory function

The skin has a thermoregulatory function, which allows the body to maintain a relatively stable temperature by allowing the skin to sweat profusely to dissipate heat and to reduce the surface area of the skin by getting goose bumps when it is cold.

Penetration function

The skin has a good penetration function, which is to enter into the interstices within the skin tissue. Generally fat-soluble substances are better absorbed because the absorbed substances are mainly dissolved in subcutaneous fat.

Secretory function

The sebaceous glands of the skin secrete sweat and sebum, and these secretions not only regulate body temperature to some extent, but also protect the skin, replenish the moisture of the stratum corneum, and maintain the normal pH level of the skin surface.

Excretion function

The sweat secreted by the sweat glands of the skin is basically water and contains small amounts of sodium chloride, lactic acid and other components. It is through the skin that these excess salts and wastes are excreted from the body.

Perceptual function

There are perceptual nerves in the skin, the ends of which reach into the epidermis to transmit temperature, pain, pressure, etc. as fast as possible, so that the brain can accurately analyze and quickly transmit coping measures to the whole body.

Absorption function

The skin can selectively absorb certain substances, and when there is damage to the skin, its local absorption is enhanced. The products we generally use to apply to the skin are mostly in the form of creams and pastes, which also help the skin to absorb.

Metabolic function

The division and differentiation of epidermal cells to finally form the stratum corneum is the metabolic process of the skin. The skin gets its nutrients from the blood. The collective metabolic disorder will affect the normal metabolism of the skin, and the abnormal metabolism of the skin will also affect the health of the body.
