Acupuncture can treat more than 300 diseases and has good efficacy in more than 100 diseases. The World Health Organization recommends acupuncture for 43 diseases. However, in general, patients in China who seek acupuncture treatment are mostly those with neurological and musculoskeletal diseases, such as post-stroke sequelae, facial paralysis, cerebral palsy in children, cervical spondylosis, frozen shoulder, lumbar disc herniation, various pain conditions (headache, various neuralgia, joint pain, etc.), sports injuries, trauma (such as traumatic brain injury), and postoperative sequelae.
In fact, acupuncture also has good efficacy in sub-healthy conditions such as insomnia, neurasthenia, menopausal syndrome, epigastric pain, abdominal pain, and even diarrhea and constipation. It is also commonly used for adolescent myopia, women's irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, and enuresis in children.
In special circumstances, acupuncture can also be used for emergencies such as heatstroke, collapse, and acute pain. It is required in domestic hospitals that ambulances must be equipped with acupuncture needles so that they can be used to puncture acupoints during the rescue of patients.
In China and abroad, acupuncture is also widely used for weight loss, smoking cessation, beauty, and anti-aging.
