Vomiting refers to the reflex action of food in the stomach entering the esophagus and being expelled through the mouth. It is a common symptom of digestive system problems in children. In traditional Chinese medicine theory, there are three types of vomiting in children: cold vomiting, hot vomiting, and food injury vomiting. Below, we will explain the massage method for food injury vomiting in children.
Causes of food injury vomiting in children
Children have weak spleen and stomach function. When they are hungry or full, or when they are injured by milk or food, or when they overeat cold food, or when they are invaded by external pathogens, the milk and food stagnate and cannot be digested properly. The stomach qi is injured, leading to imbalance and dysfunction of the stomach qi, causing it to move upwards and result in vomiting.

Explanation of the massage method for food injury vomiting in children
Tonifying the spleen meridian, rubbing the Zhongwan point, and kneading the Zusanli point can strengthen the spleen and stomach, aid digestion, and promote the transformation of food. Rubbing the Gate of the Stomach, performing internal Bagua movement, and dividing the abdomen into yin and yang can expand the chest, regulate qi, and resolve stagnation. Pushing the Tianzhu bone horizontally towards the Gate of the Stomach can descend rebellious qi and stop vomiting.
Precautions for massage for food injury vomiting in children
The main purpose of massage for vomiting is to regulate stomach qi and relieve vomiting. To enhance the anti-vomiting effect, ginger juice can be used as a medium during the massage. The massage should be performed once a day, and in severe cases, it can be performed twice a day. The treatment course lasts for three days.
Nursing guidance for vomiting in children
1. After a child vomits, parents should not rush to feed the child to reduce irritation to the intestines and stomach.
2. For mild vomiting, the child can consume easily digestible liquid foods in small amounts and multiple times; for severe vomiting, temporary fasting is necessary.
3. Parents can feed the child some fruit juice, such as apple juice or orange juice, to prevent electrolyte imbalance.
4. When the child's vomiting is relieved, they can be fed with light, low-oil, easily digestible foods such as rice porridge, noodle soup, noodles, and soft rice.
5. When a child's vomiting is severe, parents should closely monitor the situation to prevent the vomit from entering the trachea and causing choking, especially in infants. It is best to hold the child or have them sit up with their head tilted forward during vomiting to expel the vomit quickly without it entering the trachea. If a child's vomiting is severe, prompt medical attention should be sought.
