The spine is the pathway of the Du meridian in the back. In pediatric tuina acupressure, the spine is a very important area. Continuous kneading of the skin on the spine is a commonly used technique for preventing and treating diseases. Let's take a look at the illustration of pediatric tuina on the spine.
Location of the Spine in Pediatric Tuina
Located on the posterior midline, it forms a straight line from the first thoracic vertebra (Dazhui point) to the end of the coccyx (Guiwei point). These points are linear in shape, belong to the Du meridian, and are specific acupoints used in pediatric tuina.
Methods of Pediatric Tuina on the Spine
There are three methods: pushing, kneading, and pressing.
Using the fingertips of the index and middle fingers with force, perform straight pushing on the acupoints along the spine from top to bottom for 100-300 times, which is called pushing.
Using the thumb and index or middle finger symmetrically with force, start from the Guiwei point and alternately squeeze and push upward until reaching the Dazhui point. Repeat this action 3-7 times, which is called kneading.
Using the thumb fingertip with force, press and knead the spine bones from the Dazhui point downward to the Guiwei point for 3-5 times, which is called pressing.
Benefits of Pediatric Tuina on the Spine
1. It harmonizes Yin and Yang, regulates Qi and blood, unblocks meridians, adjusts visceral organs, and nourishes Yuan Qi.
2. It is a commonly used technique for pediatric health care, which has the benefits of strengthening the body and improving overall health. It also has certain therapeutic effects on some chronic diseases caused by congenital deficiency or acquired conditions.
Indications and Functions of Pediatric Tuina on the Spine
Pediatric tuina on the spine has the functions of releasing the exterior and unblocking meridians, nourishing Qi and blood, adjusting Yin and Yang, and promoting the circulation of Qi and blood. It can effectively improve organ functions and enhance the body's resistance to diseases. It is commonly used to treat symptoms such as fever, convulsions, night crying, malnutrition, diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, and constipation.
