The Best Qi Tonifying Recipes with Dangshen

Dangshen has a neutral nature and a sweet taste. It has the effects of tonifying the middle and benefiting qi, harmonizing the stomach and generating fluids, and dispelling phlegm and stopping cough. It is a precious medicinal herb for replenishing qi. People often use Dangshen to cook medicinal diets. So, how should Dangshen be consumed to achieve the best qi tonifying effect?

Danggui Dangshen Chenpi Lean Pork Soup

Main ingredients

25g Dangshen, 25g Danggui (Chinese Angelica), a small amount of Chenpi (tangerine peel), 4 red dates, 250g lean pork (mutton or pork), salt to taste.

Instructions

1. Wash the Dangshen and Danggui separately. Cut the Dangshen into sections and slice the Danggui. Wash the Chenpi, red dates, and lean pork separately. Remove the pits from the red dates and set aside.

2. Add an appropriate amount of water to a clay pot and bring it to a boil over high heat. Then, add all the above ingredients.

3. Reduce the heat and simmer for 3 hours. Add salt to taste before drinking.

Effect: Tonify the middle and benefit qi, nourish blood and generate fluids.

Dangshen Maidong Wuweizi Lean Pork Soup

Ingredients

8g Wuweizi (Schisandra chinensis), 1 slice of ginger, 15g Maidong (Ophiopogon japonicus), 20g Dangshen, 250g lean pork.

Instructions

1. Wash the Dangshen, Maidong, and Wuweizi.

2. Wash the lean pork and cut it into large pieces. Blanch it in boiling water and remove.

3. Boil water and pour it into a stew pot. Add all the ingredients and stew over water for one and a half hours. Season with salt before serving.

Effect: Improve eyesight and clear heat, benefit qi and generate fluids, invigorate the spleen and open the appetite.

Dangshen Clam Chicken Soup

Ingredients

Chicken (about the size of a chicken leg), about ten clams, about ten slices of Dangshen, salt to taste.

Instructions

1. Wash the clams and soak them in water to remove sand.

2. Put all the ingredients into a pot and add an appropriate amount of water.

3. Fill an outer pot with about one and a half cups of water.

4. Press the switch of the electric cooker and wait for it to cook.

5. Season with salt to taste.

Effect: Tonify the middle and benefit qi, invigorate the spleen and nourish the stomach.

Gouqi Shenqin Millet Porridge

Ingredients

5g Gouqi (Goji berries), 10g Dangshen, 5g Fuqin (Hoelen), 50g millet, 250g cold water.

Instructions

1. Prepare 5g Gouqi, 10g Dangshen, and 5g Fuqin.

2. Put the prepared Gouqi, Dangshen, and Fuqin into a pot.

3. Add cold water to cover the surface of the herbs and soak for 10 minutes.

4. Cook over medium heat until the herbal aroma is released and the water turns pale yellow.

5. Prepare 50g millet.

6. Place the prepared millet in the herbal water.

7. Stir the millet in one direction with a spoon a few times.

8. Simmer for about 20 to 30 minutes until the porridge becomes thick.

9. When the millet blooms, the porridge is ready.

Effect: Strengthen the spleen and stomach, nourish yin and blood.

Dangshen Huangqi Chicken Soup

Ingredients

1/2 old hen, 30g Dangshen, 30g Huangqi (Astragalus), 25g red dates, 15g dried longan, a few slices of ginger, a pinch of salt, 1.5 liters of water.

Instructions

1. Wash the chicken and chop it into pieces (if the pot is large enough, you can also put the whole or half chicken in).

2. Put the chicken pieces in a pot of cold water and bring to a boil. Then, remove and rinse.

3. Rinse the red dates and dried longan with water. Soak the Dangshen and Huangqi in water for 3-5 minutes, then remove and rinse.

4. Put all the ingredients into the inner pot of an electric pressure cooker and add 1.5 liters of water.

5. Select the "Soup" setting. Season with salt before consumption.

Effect: Tonify qi and blood, invigorate the spleen and nourish the stomach.
