How to eat taojiao
Taojiao and Tremella Sweet Soup
Ingredients
15g taojiao, 1 snow pear (300g), 30g rock sugar, 5g tremella
Instructions
1. Soak 5g taojiao in 1000ml of water overnight (about 12 hours) until it becomes soft and expands to about 10 times its original size.
2. Carefully remove any black impurities on the soaked taojiao, rinse it with water, and break it into small pieces.
3. Soak the tremella in water for 20 minutes until it becomes soft, then break it into small pieces. Peel the snow pear and cut it into 1cm-sized cubes.
4. Put taojiao, tremella, and water in a pot, bring to a boil over high heat, then simmer for 30 minutes over low heat until the soup becomes slightly thick.
Taojiao and Coix Seed Porridge
Ingredients
1 spoonful of coix seed, taojiao, and rose sauce, 6 red dates
Instructions
1. Wash the coix seed and taojiao separately, and soak them in water. I soaked them for 8 hours. After 8 hours, rinse the coix seed and taojiao, and put them in a clay pot along with 6 red dates.
2. Add enough water to the clay pot, bring to a boil over high heat, then simmer over medium-low heat for 2 hours. Stir occasionally to avoid burning.
3. In a bowl, add 1 spoonful of rose sauce, then pour in the cooked taojiao and coix seed. Mix well while hot.
