Wu Zhu Yu Porridge
Wu Zhu Yu (Euodia ruticarpa), also known as Wu Yu, Cha La, Qi La Zi, Chou La Zi Shu, Zuo Li Chun You Zi, Mi La Zi, is a dicotyledonous plant. Wu Zhu Yu usually comes in several varieties, including Da Hua Wu Zhu Yu, Zhong Hua Wu Zhu Yu, and Xiao Hua Wu Zhu Yu. It has a hot and bitter taste, and is cold in nature. It has the functions of dispersing heat and relieving pain, as well as reducing counterflow and stopping vomiting. It is used to treat symptoms such as headache and stomach pain caused by liver and stomach deficiency and turbidity going upwards. The pharmacological properties of this plant are recorded in "Ben Jing": "It warms the middle and lower parts, relieves pain, treats cough, counterflow, cold and heat, removes dampness, blood stasis, dispels wind evil, and opens the pores." "Compendium of Materia Medica" records: "It resolves depression and stasis, treats acid regurgitation, hypochondriac pain due to Yin phlegm and salivation, abdominal pain due to Yin poison, hernia, bloody dysentery, throat and tongue ulcers."
The Efficacy and Functions of Wu Zhu Yu
Wu Zhu Yu has the properties of dispersing cold, relieving pain, and expelling cold. It mainly enters the liver meridian, both dispersing the cold pathogen in the liver meridian and promoting the smooth flow of liver qi. It is the main medicinal herb for treating various pains caused by liver cold and stagnant qi. 1. When used together with ginger, ginseng, etc., it can treat hypochondriac headache, dry retching with excessive salivation, white coating on the tongue, and slow pulse. 2. When combined with Xiao Hui Xiang, Chuan Lian Zi, and Mu Xiang, it can treat cold hernia and abdominal pain. 3. When used together with Gui Zhi, Dang Gui, and Chuan Xiong, it can treat cold deficiency in the Chong and Ren channels, and pain due to blood stasis. 4. When combined with papaya, Su Ye, and Bing Lang, it can treat cold and damp foot qi swelling and pain, or upward counterflow into the abdomen.

【Prescription】2g Wu Zhu Yu, 50g glutinous rice, 2 slices of ginger, 2 scallion stalks
【Method】Grind Wu Zhu Yu into fine powder; cook the glutinous rice first, and when the rice is cooked, add the Wu Zhu Yu powder, ginger, and scallion stalks, and continue cooking to make porridge.
