Understanding the Negative Impact of Bedtime Snacking on Children's Sleep and Development

November 28, 2023

Some parents become very anxious when they see their children being too thin or having a poor appetite. Out of the belief that "eating more leads to growing stronger," they may give their children an extra meal before bedtime. However, they are unaware that this actually disrupts the child's daily routine and hinders their sleep, ultimately affecting their physical development.

Sleep satisfies a child's physiological needs and is closely related to their intellectual development. Before bedtime, the brain and nerves are fatigued, and the secretion of digestive fluids in the stomach and intestines decreases. Eating at this time increases the burden on the gastrointestinal system and stimulates the secretion of digestive fluids, disrupting their normal secretion. As a result, children often feel bloated and have trouble sleeping, affecting the quality of their sleep. Therefore, it is best not to give children an extra meal before bedtime.
