Explanation of the Causes of Stomach Pain in Traditional Chinese Medicine

1. External pathogenic factors invading the stomach

External cold, dampness, heat, and other pathogenic factors can block the flow of qi in the stomach, leading to pain. Among them, cold pathogenic factors are the most common.

2. Diet damaging the stomach

Improper diet, overeating or hunger, can damage the spleen and stomach, causing stagnation of stomach qi and resulting in pain.

3. Emotional imbalance

Worry, overthinking, anger, and other emotional disturbances can harm the liver and spleen. When the liver fails to regulate and the spleen fails to function properly, the stomach qi is blocked, leading to stomach pain.

4. Weakness of the spleen

The spleen and stomach are responsible for digestion. If the spleen and stomach are weak, the digestive function is impaired, and there may be qi stagnation or insufficient yang in the middle jiao, causing stomach pain due to coldness.

Can Massaging Palm Acupoints Relieve Stomach Pain?

For severe stomach pain, stimulate the "stomach and intestines point" first. The stomach and intestines point is located slightly below the center of the palm and belongs to the "Three Needles for Health Maintenance" acupoint area. Draw a straight line between the middle finger and ring finger towards the wrist. The intersection of this line and the lifeline is the stomach and intestines point.

The "LUO 5" acupoint is located on the back of the hand, approximately between the index finger and middle finger, about 2 centimeters down towards the wrist. It can be felt as a depression between the bones of the index finger and middle finger.

Stomach and Intestines Point and LUO 5 Acupoint

The stomach and intestines point is closely related to the stomach and intestines. When acute gastritis occurs, it is necessary to stimulate the stomach and intestines point. When stimulating, use 5 toothpicks to prick the stomach and intestines point with an intensity that will not break the skin. Generally, after 10 to 5 pricks, the pain will be relieved. If the pain persists, continue stimulating the stomach and intestines point. The "LUO 5" on the back of the hand must also be stimulated in the same way.
