Stay Healthier with Acupressure Massage Techniques for Older Adults

As people age, their bodies undergo various forms of aging. How can one stay healthier? Experts say that older adults can do a full body massage in bed before getting up, also known as acupressure massage, which can not only enhance the immune system but also promote overall health.



  
 

  1. Rubbing Hand Acupoints: Use the right thumb to rub the Laogong acupoint, Hegu acupoint, and Neiguan acupoint on the left hand until you feel warmth. Then change direction and repeat the process.

  

  2. Painful Pinching of Five Fingers: Place both hands in front of the chest and use the right hand to pinch the acupoints on the left hand fingers in the following order: pinky finger (kidney, bladder), ring finger (spleen), middle finger (heart), index finger (lung), thumb (liver). Then change direction and repeat the process.

  

  3. Rubbing the Abdomen: Place the palms of both hands on top of each other, with the left hand below and the right hand on top for males, and vice versa for females. Press the navel and rotate clockwise 36 times, then change hands and rotate counterclockwise 24 times. Regularly massaging the abdomen can strengthen the functioning of the spleen, stomach, and intestines.

  

  4. Dry Wash the Face and Comb the Hair: Rub the ears, pull the ears, and drum the temples. Massage the forehead, temples, ring finger, middle finger, and index finger from the forehead acupoint to the temples 36 times. Rub the sides of the nose and massage the Yingxiang acupoint 36 times. Tap the teeth 72 times and rotate the tongue in the mouth left and right 18 times. Gargle with saliva and swallow it. Massage the Baihui acupoint. Rub the Fengchi and Fengfu acupoints, 18 times on each palm. Rub the Dazhui acupoint, 18 times on each hand. Massage both kidneys by half-fisting both hands and placing the backs of the hands on the Shenshu acupoints, rubbing 72 times. Strike the Mingmen acupoint by making fists with both hands, and strike it 36 times with the backs of the hands.

  

  5. Massage the Upper Abdomen: Place the palms of both hands on the upper abdomen, with the thumbs facing up and pressing on the Shanzhong acupoint, while the other four fingers point downward. When moving downward, use the thumbs to push down to the pubic bone. When moving upward, press the four fingers against the abdomen and lift upward. One up and one down counts as one repetition, and repeat this process 36 times.

  

  6. Rub the Chest: Same movements as in step 3, but target the chest area. Massaging the chest can stimulate the thymus gland and enhance the body's immune system.

  

  7. Massage the Huiyin Acupoint: Slightly separate the legs, and use the middle finger of the right hand to rub the Huiyin acupoint 36 times.

  

  8. Massage the Zusanli Acupoint on the Foot: Straighten the left leg and use the right heel to rub the Zusanli acupoint on the left leg 72 times. Then change direction and repeat the process 72 times.

  

  9. Massage the Yongquan Acupoint on the Foot: Slightly bend the left leg, turn the sole of the foot to the right, and use the right heel to rub the Yongquan acupoint on the left foot 72 times. Then change direction and repeat the process 72 times, using the same method as before.
