Nourishing Yin and Tonifying Kidneys: The Key to Balancing Yin and Yang in the Body

March 22, 2024

Regularly giving children supplements and high-calorie foods often leads to excessive yang in the kidneys and relative deficiency of yin, resulting in an imbalance of yin and yang in the body over time. The "kidneys" in the human body are like a mysterious mansion that contains both water and fire. It contains the essence of yin and yang, which helps maintain the overall balance of yin and yang in the body. It plays a crucial role in the internal organs and is known as the "source of life" and the "foundation of innate vitality". The kidneys are the "root" of the human body, influenced by both innate factors and continuous nourishment from acquired sources. The entire process of reproduction, growth, strength, aging, and death in humans is decisively influenced by the kidneys.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the first thing to do is to nourish yin, reduce fire, consolidate energy, and stop bleeding. Massaging specific acupoints can effectively regulate the kidneys. The acupoints Taixi, Zhaohai, and Yongquan have strong effects in nourishing yin and reducing fire.

Taixi Acupoint is the original acupoint of the kidneys, and it can comprehensively activate the functions of the kidneys. "Tai" means many, and "xi" means stream. Taixi together means a lot of streams. It has the effect of nourishing and tonifying the yin of the kidneys.

Zhaohai Acupoint belongs to the yin qiao meridian of the eight extraordinary meridians and intersects with the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. It is one of the key acupoints where the eight extraordinary meridians meet. It has the function of nourishing the kidneys, clearing heat, and regulating the Triple Burner. Sun Simiao, a famous Chinese medicine doctor, referred to this acupoint as "leaking yin." If you have a deficiency of kidney yin and are prone to internal heat, massaging this acupoint can nourish the kidneys, clear heat, and promote the smooth functioning of the Triple Burner, achieving multiple benefits with one action.

Yongquan Acupoint is the starting point of the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian and the lowest point on the human body. Just from the name of the acupoint, it is evident that there is a lot of "water" in Yongquan. It is known for its strong effect in nourishing yin and tonifying the kidneys. In the Huangdi Neijing, it is said that "the kidneys originate from Yongquan, and Yongquan is the soles of the feet." This means that the qi of the kidney meridian is like spring water, originating from the feet and irrigating the entire body. When nourishing yin and tonifying the kidneys, the Yongquan acupoint is indispensable.

Soaking the feet in hot water can activate the blood circulation in the feet. At this time, use the thumbs of both hands to slowly and forcefully massage the Yongquan acupoint, one by one. You can massage both feet at the same time or one foot at a time. Massaging each foot for 5 minutes will yield better results. When massaging the Taixi and Zhaohai acupoints, find the small depression where the acupoints are located. Use the left thumb to massage the acupoints on the right foot and the right thumb to massage the acupoints on the left foot. Massage each acupoint for 3 minutes each time to achieve good results.
