Scraping Therapy: A Traditional Treatment for Related Diseases

March 10, 2024

Scraping therapy is a treatment method that uses smooth bamboo boards, porcelain pieces, spoons, coins, coins, glass, or tools such as hair and linen dipped in cooking oil or water to repeatedly scrape from top to bottom and from inside to outside on the surface of the body to treat related diseases.

Treatment Mechanism

This therapy has the functions of promoting blood circulation, inducing sweating, regulating tendons and collaterals, and tonifying the spleen and stomach. As the acupoints of the five organs are distributed on the back, scraping treatment can help the impure and stagnant qi of the organs flow outwards, promote the smooth flow of qi and blood throughout the body, and expel pathogenic factors.

Precautions

1. During treatment, the room should be kept well-ventilated. If the weather turns cold, attention should be paid to avoiding exposure to cold wind.

2. Dry scraping is not allowed, and the tools must have smooth edges without any damage.

3. When scraping for the first time, try 3-5 times. If the skin turns purple but the patient does not feel pain, it is an indication that this therapy is suitable. If the skin turns red and the patient feels pain, it is not suitable for this method, and medical treatment should be sought.

4. The technique should be controlled, scraping from top to bottom in a smooth motion, and dip in vegetable oil or water from time to time to keep it lubricated, in order to avoid injuring the skin.

5. The body position for scraping can be adjusted according to the needs, generally including supine, prone, supine leaning, and prone leaning, depending on the comfort of the patient.

6. The number of scrapes should be determined based on the specific situation, generally 2-4 scrapes per location, each about 2-3 inches long.

7. After scraping, wipe off the oil or water stains, and apply a small amount of wind-relieving oil on the purple areas, then let the patient rest for a while. If the patient feels chest tightness or heat in the heart, scrape a line on each side of the chest between the third and fourth ribs to calm it down.

8. After scraping, the patient should avoid anger, irritability, or excessive worry, and maintain emotional calmness. At the same time, avoid consuming raw and cold fruits, as well as greasy foods.

9. If the patient feels worse after scraping, seek medical treatment immediately.
