Drinking water, getting startled, holding your breath - you've tried all these methods, but hiccups still won't go away. What should you do? Here's a simple method: pressing the acupoint on your forehead can help stop hiccups.
Hiccups are a common problem, and people often try various home remedies, such as holding their breath. Here's another method - pressing the acupoint on your forehead.
You may think there's no connection between the forehead and hiccups, but there is a basis for pressing the acupoint on the forehead to treat hiccups. In traditional Chinese medicine, the forehead refers to a specific acupoint called "Yintang".
The bladder meridian of the foot Taiyang runs through the back of the body, sandwiched between the two sides of the spine. Therefore, when hiccups occur, you can use acupressure points on the bladder meridian to treat them, which can have a good regulating effect on the qi of the upper, middle, and lower parts of the body. Yintang is one such effective acupoint for stopping hiccups on the bladder meridian. Yintang is located in the depression on the inner edge of the eyebrow, which is right at the starting point of the bladder meridian. Therefore, it has the function of regulating the qi of the bladder meridian.
The method of pressing Yintang is very simple: raise your thumbs and place them on the inner side of the eyebrows. You can feel a distinct depression just above the eyebrow bone. Press down on this depression with force, and you will feel a noticeable soreness radiating around the eyes. You can also take deep breaths while pressing to help relax the diaphragm. Generally, press for about one minute, and the annoying hiccups should stop.
