Relief for Acute Gastritis: Acupressure Points for Nausea and Vomiting

March 5, 2024

Nausea and vomiting are common, especially after overeating or consuming spoiled food. This is due to acute gastritis, where the stomach is unable to digest and process the food consumed. Sometimes, only stomach acid is vomited, leading to symptoms such as thirst, stomach pain, fatigue, and loss of appetite. This discomfort is often experienced after attending parties or overindulging in food.

Acute gastritis can vary depending on individual constitution. Weakness in the gastrointestinal system, excessive exertion, and unstable mental state can also lead to acute gastritis. Therefore, the same food may not cause nausea in all individuals. If acute gastritis is not treated and viewed as a temporary condition, it may develop into chronic gastritis or stomach ulcers. Thus, it is important to take it seriously.

Although the symptoms of acute gastritis are intense, they can quickly recover with appropriate treatment and do not require excessive worry. However, it can be considered a blow to those with irregular lifestyles and inconsistent diets.

Acupressure treatment for nausea and its pressure points

First, let's talk about the "Six Huaji Points." These points are effective in treating any gastrointestinal and visceral diseases. First, draw a line connecting the lower end of the scapula. The center of this line is located between the seventh and eighth thoracic vertebrae, as shown in the figure. First, find point ①, then move two units downward to find point ②, and then move two more units downward to find point ③. Points ①, ②, and ③ are located approximately two finger-widths to the left and right of each other and are the "Six Huaji Points." The acupressure technique involves taking a deep breath and exhaling slowly, using your fingers to press firmly for about 6 seconds. Repeat this pressing motion from top to bottom 10 times, and it will provide comfort to the stomach and alleviate the discomfort caused by acute gastritis.

Pressing the point located 2 centimeters to the left and right of the "Zhongwan" point also has significant effects on acute nausea and vomiting. When applying pressure, lie flat and relax the muscles, and press the "Zhongwan" point between the lower end of the sternum and the navel. This method, repeated continuously for 10 times, will also provide comfort to the stomach.
