February 22, 2024

When suffering from a cold with wind and cold symptoms, runny nose is the most common symptom. Combined with headache and dry throat, it can be really uncomfortable. If you want to relieve the symptoms of a cold without taking medicine, I recommend trying acupressure massage to prevent colds in advance.

Symptoms of wind and cold cold

1. Severe headache: pain in the back of the head, accompanied by limited neck movement.

2. Sensitivity to cold and wind: usually need to wear many clothes or cover with a thick blanket to feel comfortable.

3. Clear runny nose: clear nasal discharge, white or slightly yellow. If you have a stuffy nose and no runny nose, drinking hot water can make the clear nasal discharge start, which also belongs to wind and cold cold. Tongue without coating or thin white coating, heavy nasal congestion. Sneezing, clear runny nose, chills, little or no fever, no sweating, whole body aches, cough with thin white phlegm, thin white coating on the tongue, and floating and tight pulse.

Massage these 3 acupressure points to prevent colds

1. Massage Ying Xiang

First use the index finger and thumb to massage the Ying Xiang points on both sides of the nose 50 times each, then rub the palms of the hands to create heat, and gently massage the tip and wings of the nose in both directions for 30 times each. This method can not only prevent colds, but also treat nasal congestion and chronic rhinitis.

2. Rub Feng Chi

Sit down and slightly lower your head, relax your neck, and use your right thumb and index finger to massage the Feng Chi points on both sides. It is best to have a local sore and swollen feeling, and continue for 3-5 minutes. When the nose is congested, massaging the Feng Chi points can instantly relieve the congestion. Feng Chi is an important acupoint in the body for dispelling wind. Massaging it can dispel wind and promote meridian circulation, and relieve surface and cold.

3. Rub Yong Quan

Sit down and use the palm root of the foot to rub the Yong Quan point on the sole for about 3 minutes until there is a slight warm and swollen feeling in the local area. Rubbing and pressing the Yong Quan point can warm the kidney and assist yang, thereby strengthening the barrier effect of the bladder meridian against the invasion of wind and cold evils.

Dietary remedies for treating colds

1. Ginger Tea

Take an appropriate amount of fresh ginger and tea leaves, brew tea or boil soup to drink. Take it continuously for 3 days to alleviate cold symptoms and shorten the duration of the illness. It works even better with the addition of brown sugar.

2. Peppermint Porridge

Wash and chop fresh peppermint, add an appropriate amount of water and crush it to remove the juice. Cook glutinous rice to make porridge, and add peppermint juice when it is ready. This recipe can effectively treat wind-heat cold.

3. Cabbage Soup

Take 3 roots of washed and sliced large cabbage roots, add 3 roots of large green onion, decoct with 500 ml of water, and add a little white sugar to take while hot. Alternatively, take 250g of cabbage heart, 60g of white radish, decoct with water, and add an appropriate amount of brown sugar to drink with the vegetables.

4. Fresh Lemon Juice

Squeeze lemon juice, add sugar or honey, and then add warm water. Drink 500-1000 ml a day when you have a cold, which can reduce runny nose and help recover from a cold faster. Especially in the early stages of a cold, drinking lemon juice can even cure it without medication.
