When suffering from a cold with wind and cold symptoms, a runny nose is one of the most common symptoms. Combined with a headache and a dry throat, it can be really uncomfortable. If you want to relieve cold symptoms without taking medication, I recommend trying acupressure to prevent a cold in advance.
Symptoms of a cold with wind and cold
1. Strong headache at the back of the head: pain at the back of the head, accompanied by limited neck movement.
2. Sensitivity to cold and wind: usually need to wear multiple layers of clothing or cover with a thick blanket to feel comfortable.
3. Clear nasal discharge: clear discharge, white or slightly yellowish. If there is no nasal congestion and nasal discharge, drinking hot water can stimulate the flow of clear nasal discharge. This is also considered a cold with wind and cold symptoms. Other symptoms include a thin white or no coating on the tongue, heavy nasal congestion, sneezing, clear nasal discharge, chills, mild or no fever, no sweating, general body aches, cough with thin white phlegm, thin white coating on the tongue, and a floating and tight pulse.
3 acupressure points to prevent a cold
1. Pressing Yingxiang
First, press and rub the Yingxiang points on both sides of the nose with the index and thumb fingers 50 times each. Then rub the palms of your hands until they become warm, and gently massage the tip and sides of the nose in both directions for 30 times each. This method can not only prevent a cold, but also treat nasal congestion and chronic rhinitis.
2. Rubbing Fengchi
Sit down, slightly lower your head, relax your neck, and use your right thumb and index finger to press and rub the Fengchi points on both sides. It is ideal to feel a sore and swollen sensation in the local area. Continue for 3-5 minutes. When nasal congestion occurs, pressing and rubbing the Fengchi points can provide instant relief. Fengchi is an important acupoint for dispelling wind in the body. Pressing and rubbing this point can expel wind, promote meridian circulation, and relieve surface coldness.
3. Rubbing Yongquan
Sit down and use the root of your hand's big fish joint to rub the Yongquan point on the sole of your foot for about 3 minutes until there is a slight warm and swollen sensation in the local area. Rubbing and pressing the Yongquan point can warm the kidney and assist yang, thereby strengthening the bladder meridian's defense against wind and cold invasion.
Dietary remedies for treating a cold
1. Ginger Tea
Take an appropriate amount of fresh ginger and tea leaves, make tea or boil them to drink. Continuously drink for 3 days to alleviate cold symptoms and shorten the duration of the illness. Adding brown sugar can enhance the effects.
2. Peppermint Porridge
Wash fresh peppermint and chop it, then add an appropriate amount of water and mash it to extract the juice. Cook rice in a pot to make porridge, and add the peppermint juice when it is ready. This recipe can effectively treat a cold with wind and heat symptoms.
3. Cabbage Soup
Take the roots of 3 large cabbage plants, wash and slice them, add 500ml of water, and add a little white sugar. Drink it while it's hot. Another option is to take 250g of cabbage heart, 60g of white radish, cook them in water, and add an appropriate amount of brown sugar to drink the soup with the vegetables.

Squeeze lemon juice, add sugar or honey, and then add warm water. When you have a cold, drink 500-1000ml of this mixture per day to reduce runny nose symptoms and recover from the cold more quickly.
