Relieving Constipation: Massage Your Way to Relief

February 14, 2024

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that constipation is not a disease, but a symptom that occurs when the body has a certain disease. In order to get rid of the trouble of constipation, you can combine the treatment with massaging several "defecation points" on the body.

Ways to relieve constipation by massaging several

1. Yingxiang (Welcome Fragrance)

The Yingxiang points on both sides of the nose are the endpoints of the Hand Yangming and Large Intestine meridians. When you massage these points, you will feel a warm flow gradually permeating down to your lower body, and even flowing into your stomach. Years of constipation can be quickly relieved.

2. Zhigou (Branch Ditch)

The Zhigou point is located about three inches above the center of the wrist crease. It is very easy to find. The massage method is to gently massage this acupoint with your fingertips, or you can massage it in a circular motion. It has a good therapeutic effect on constipation.

3. Shangjuxu (Upper Great Hollow)

The Shangjuxu point on the thigh is also a good place to relieve constipation. If you have spleen and stomach deficiency-cold, you will feel a warm flow rushing upwards during moxibustion, making your abdomen very warm.

4. Dachangshu (Large Intestine Shu)

The Dachangshu point is located about 1.5 inches above the protrusion of the fourth lumbar vertebra, about as wide as your thumb. You can massage this acupoint with the fingertip, or you can massage it in a circular motion. It can effectively treat constipation.

5. Tiantu (Heaven's Rush)

Use your hand to directly press the Tiantu point. Tiantu is located in the depression above the sternum, and it is the nemesis of constipation. If there is stagnation in the Jiaji lung area, it means that constipation is caused by the failure of stomach Qi to descend. At this time, you can gently press the Tiantu point inward with your fingers, and when you feel like coughing, gently move the Tiantu point from back to front, and continue to move it for two to three minutes after feeling soreness.

6. Tianshu (Heaven's Pivot)

Tianshu is the meeting point of the Large Intestine, and it is where the Yangming meridian Qi flows. It is responsible for regulating and adjusting the intestines, promoting Qi circulation, and aiding digestion. It is an important acupoint on the abdomen. Numerous experiments and clinical verifications have shown that needling or moxibustion at the Tianshu point has significant effects in improving intestinal function, relieving or reducing various symptoms caused by gastrointestinal dysfunction, such as abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, and dysentery.
