Natural Remedies for Insomnia: Acupressure Techniques for Improved Sleep

1. Tap Yongquan Acupoint

Location: The Yongquan acupoint is located in the center of the sole, between the second and third metatarsal bones, and it is slightly concave when tiptoeing.

Massage: After washing the feet before bedtime, sit on the bed and use the palm of the right hand to tap the Yongquan acupoint on the left foot 120 times, then use the palm of the left hand to tap the Yongquan acupoint on the right foot 120 times. This will help you get rid of insomnia and have a peaceful night's sleep.

3. Press Baihui Acupoint

Massage: Use the tip of the right thumb to press the Baihui acupoint (located on the top of the head, 5 inches above the hairline or the midpoint of a line connecting the tips of both ears), and when a local feeling of heaviness and numbness occurs, switch to using the thumb pad to rotate and massage the acupoint for about 30 seconds. Then, use the palm as the center and press and rotate evenly with force for about 30 seconds.

4. Rub Sanyinjiao Acupoint

Location: Located on the inside of the lower leg, 4 fingers above the tip of the inner ankle, on the posterior side of the tibia.

Massage: The masseur should use the thumb to rub the Sanyinjiao acupoint in a clockwise direction for about 2 minutes, and then rub it in a counterclockwise direction for 2 minutes, with a slight soreness and swelling sensation in the area being massaged being ideal.

Benefits: Helps to treat insomnia, high blood pressure, decreased appetite, premenstrual tension, irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, impotence, and nocturnal emission.

5. Press Insomnia Acupoint

Location: Located at the intersection of the sole of the foot, the midline of the sole, and the line connecting the inner and outer ankles.

Massage: The person receiving the massage should lie on their back, and the masseur should use the thumb to press the insomnia acupoint in the direction of the heel for 3 minutes, with a slight soreness and swelling sensation in the area being massaged being ideal.

Benefits: This acupoint is especially effective for treating insomnia, heel pain, and other conditions.

6. Rub Zusanli Acupoint

The Zusanli acupoint is located on the lower limbs (on the anterior outer side of the lower leg, 3 inches below the knee, one horizontal finger's width from the anterior edge of the tibia).

When rubbing this acupoint, the patient can sit upright on the bed or a chair, naturally extend both lower limbs, use both thumbs to press and rub the Zusanli acupoint, and the rest of the fingers should be closed to support the calf. At the same time, use the thumb pad to press the acupoint with a penetrating force for 30 seconds, take a short rest, and then continue pressing for a total of 3 minutes.
