  Acupoint Massage: How to Find and Massage Acupoints

  Locating acupoints is a basic skill for acupuncturists. In addition to accurately finding acupoints based on anatomical locations, there are many subtle techniques. Today, we will share some of these techniques with you. To perform effective massage or acupuncture, it is crucial to accurately locate the relevant acupoints. However, we often do not know where the acupoints are and how to apply the correct pressure. So, let's introduce this knowledge to you.

  How to Accurately Locate Acupoints and Apply Pressure?

  Acupoints, also known as acupressure points, are places where reactions occur. When there is an abnormality in the body, various reactions will appear at the acupoints.

  1. These reactions include:

  1) When pressed with a finger, there will be pain (tenderness);

  2) When touched with a finger, there will be a hard lump (nodules);

  3) With slight stimulation, the skin will itch (sensitivity);

  4) There will be dark spots or patches (pigmentation);

  5) There will be temperature differences compared to the surrounding skin (temperature changes), etc.

  The presence or absence of these reactions is an important sign of whether the acupoints have been accurately located.

  2. Methods to Find Acupoints

  When the fingertips touch the acupoint, it will feel particularly soft, as if there is a depression inside. Following the finger and focusing on the acupoint, there will be a slight tingling sensation, and sensitive individuals may even feel a slight warmth at the acupressure point.

  3. Methods to Apply Pressure on Acupoints

  1) First, locate the acupoint you want to apply pressure to.

  2) Press the acupoint with the inside of your thumb joint and apply downward pressure.

  3) While applying downward pressure, silently count from 1 to 6. By the time you reach 6, your finger should have penetrated deep into the acupoint.

  4) Stay for 2-3 seconds, then count from 5 to 1, gradually release the pressure. Keep your thumb on the acupoint for another 2-3 seconds before repeating the pressure application.

  5) Each acupoint should be pressed at least 5 times to be effective.

  We have introduced the methods to locate acupoints and apply pressure on them. If you want to learn self-massage and acupuncture, you can study these methods and perform self-acupressure massage at home.
