Facial massage is an important step in our beauty care routine. Moderate massage can promote blood circulation, accelerate metabolism, and delay aging, making the skin more elastic and vibrant. However, many people are not aware of the correct steps for facial massage, so they often massage without seeing any results. Below, I will teach you the important points to note and the step-by-step method for facial massage.
Step 1: Correct Steps for Facial Massage
Step 1: Start with the center of the eyebrows and massage in large circles, spreading to the entire forehead. Use your index, middle, and ring fingers to circle massage from the center of the eyebrows towards the temples. You should feel a pulling sensation on the skin. Massage the temples as well.
Step 2: This step focuses on the often neglected nose. Use the pad of your middle finger to gently massage both sides of the nose in a downward motion. This has the effect of stretching the skin and preventing horizontal lines. Massage each side three times. Place the pad of your middle finger against the nostril groove and move it up and down, approximately six times. This helps to remove accumulated dirt and dissolve excess sebum, so use a little more pressure.
Step 3: Quickly lift the corners of the mouth which tend to sag. Use the pads of your middle and ring fingers to massage from the center of the lower lip towards the corners of the mouth. This helps to relieve skin sagging. Repeat approximately three times.
Step 4: Massage the cheeks in large circular motions centered around the jaw. Use the pads of your middle and ring fingers to circle massage from the chin towards the ears. Move your fingers across the entire face, approximately three times.
Step 5: Gently stimulate the temples to promote lymph circulation. Again, lightly push the temples using a comfortable amount of pressure. The temples are responsible for lymph movement, so gentle pressure helps to promote circulation.
Step 6: Be cautious and thorough when massaging the eye area, which is prone to fatigue and puffiness. Starting from the corners of the eyes, use the pads of your middle and ring fingers to cover the entire eye area and gently stroke towards the outer corners. Repeat approximately three times. At this point, gently push the temples once more.
Step 7: Massage the neck where blood vessels and lymph gather with a slightly firmer pressure. If the massage cream is not enough, apply more and use the palm of your hand to lift the neck from bottom to top. Apply a gentle pressure to the center of the neck and slightly increase the pressure on the sides. When massaging, it is easier to tilt the chin up.
Step 2: 5 Acupoints on the Face Meridians
1. Che Que Acupoint: Located between the eyebrows, in the depression of the bridge of the nose.
2. Guan Lao Acupoint: Located below the outer corner of the eye, on the depression below the cheekbone.
3. Ying Xiang Acupoint: Located on each side of the nose, about 1 centimeter away from the wrinkles.
4. Di Cang Acupoint: Located on the outer side of the mouth, directly opposite the pupils.
5. Tai Yang Acupoint: Located in front of the ear, on the temples, above the line extending from the outer corner of the eye to the forehead.
Step 3: Precautions Before Facial Massage
1. Before the massage, thoroughly clean your hands to avoid bacterial contamination of the face. Trim and clean your fingernails, ensuring they are not too long to prevent skin damage. It is also recommended to apply lotion to your hands to avoid any hangnails.
2. Cleanse your face thoroughly before starting the massage.
3. For those with oily skin and excessive sebum production, massaging can worsen pore blockage. It is recommended to massage immediately after cleansing the face and not exceed 5 minutes. If there are pimples or acne on the face, facial massage should be avoided.
4. Those with sensitive skin should avoid massage to prevent further irritation to the skin.
5. For those with dry skin, especially around the corners of the eyes and cheeks where fine lines are prone to appear, the massage time can be extended to 15-20 minutes.
6. For those with normal skin, a massage time of 15-20 minutes is recommended, ensuring a comfortable and relaxed feeling.
