In daily life, massage is commonly used to treat various illnesses. Now let's follow the editor to learn about the efficacy and function of the Tian Tu acupoint, as well as massage therapy for treating cough. How to find the position of the Tian Tu acupoint?

【Position of the Tian Tu Acupoint】

1. Standard positioning

The Tian Tu acupoint is located in the neck, on the midline, in the central depression of the suprasternal fossa.

2. Method of locating the acupoint

Located 1 inch above the Renzhong acupoint, in the center of the suprasternal fossa, sit upright with the head tilted back to locate the acupoint.

Quick method of locating the acupoint: Lie supine, and press down from the Adam's apple until a depression is felt, which is the Tian Tu acupoint.

3. Anatomy of the acupoint

Below the Tian Tu acupoint are the skin, subcutaneous tissue, the tendons of the left and right clavicular muscles (between the two sternoclavicular joints), the superior part of the jugular notch, the left and right sternothyroid muscles, and the pretracheal space.

The superficial layer contains the medial branches of the clavicular nerves, and the subcutaneous tissue contains the sternocleidomastoid muscle and the jugular venous arch. The deep layer contains the brachiocephalic trunk, the left common carotid artery, the arch of the aorta, and the brachiocephalic vein, among other important structures.

1. Relieve cough through massage

By applying pressure on the Tian Tu acupoint, located in the middle of the clavicle, for 6 seconds, whether it is acute cough or the presence of foreign objects in the throat, the cough will immediately stop.

When using this method, it is necessary to exhale while applying pressure. It only takes three repetitions to be effective. For children, reducing the pressure and increasing the frequency will also achieve the same effect in relieving cough.

2. Eliminate gastric distension

Ask the patient to press the Tian Tu acupoint (in the suprasternal fossa) with the index finger of one hand, repeatedly and with moderate force, for about 10 times each session, until a local sensation of acidity, distension, or slight pain is felt.

Continuous treatment for two months will generally produce significant results after about half a month of pressing.

3. Relieve hiccup

In Chinese medicine, hiccups are believed to be caused by improper diet, which leads to upward reversal of gastric qi. To relieve hiccups, it is necessary to promote the flow of gastric qi and let the reversed qi return.

Moxibustion on the Tian Tu acupoint is also a good method for regulating hiccups. The Tian Tu acupoint has the function of guiding qi, and by guiding the qi out, hiccups can be relieved or suppressed.

4. Warm moxibustion for inflammation

When massaging the Tian Tu acupoint, one can also make a swallowing motion and swallow the saliva while breathing. In addition to massage, applying heat to the Tian Tu acupoint is also an effective method for reducing inflammation.

Place a small cloth bag filled with soybeans on the Tian Tu acupoint after microwaving it for two minutes. This is a simple method of warm moxibustion.

5. Treat colds in children

Due to the small size of infants and young children, parents can gently press the acupoint in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction with the pad of their thumb or index finger, 2-3 times a day for two minutes each time, to achieve significant results.
