Acupoint location: This acupoint is located on the face, at the intersection of the upper 1/3 and middle 1/3 of the Renzhong groove.
Anatomy: In the orbicularis oris muscle; there are superior labial arteries and veins; and branches of the infraorbital nerve and the zygomatic branch of the facial nerve.
Meridian affiliation: Belongs to the Governing Vessel, meeting point of the Hand and Foot Yangming meridians. When stimulated, it can cause dizziness and fainting.
Main diseases treated: Coma, syncope, heatstroke, mania, delusion, epilepsy, sudden and slow wind disorders, nasal congestion, nosebleed, facial edema, toothache, tight closure of teeth, jaundice, diabetes, generalized edema, cholera, epidemic fever, severe back pain, lumbar pain caused by sprain.
Acupoint combinations: Combined with Baihui acupoint, Shixuan acupoint, and Yongquan acupoint for emergency treatment of coma. For heatstroke, add Weizhong acupoint and Chize acupoint; for drowning and suffocation, add Huiyin acupoint; for mania, add Neiguan acupoint; for hysterical seizures, add Hegu acupoint and Laogong acupoint; for runny nose, combine with Shangxing acupoint and Fengfu acupoint; for acute lumbar sprain, combine with Weizhong acupoint (purging method); for irregular menstruation and excessive menstrual flow, combine with Sanyinjiao acupoint and Xuehai acupoint.
Moxibustion method: Insert obliquely upwards for 0.3-0.5 inches, or use fingernails to apply pressure; moxibustion is not as effective as needling, use moxa sticks the size of soybeans, moxibustion three times a day.
