Nasal inflammation, also known as rhinitis, is an inflammatory condition of the nasal mucosa caused by viruses, bacteria, allergens, various physical and chemical factors, as well as certain systemic diseases. The main pathological changes of rhinitis include congestion, swelling, exudation, hypertrophy, atrophy, or necrosis of the nasal mucosa.
I. Folk massage techniques for treating rhinitis
Massage requirements:
Sit in a relaxed position and breathe evenly during the massage. For mild cases, massage once in the morning and evening, and noticeable effects can be seen within a week. For severe cases, massage three times a day in the morning, noon, and evening, and significant improvement can be seen in about twenty days. If the massage is persisted, a complete recovery can be achieved.
Specific massage techniques:
First Technique: Hot finger massage on the bridge of the nose
First, rub your palms vigorously until they are very hot. Then, use the middle fingertips of your left and right hands to pinch the sides of the bridge of the nose tightly, and push upwards along the bridge of the nose to the Shen Ting point (along the edge of the hairline). Then, push downwards towards the sides of the nostrils. The speed of the massage should be fast, with one upward and one downward movement counted as one cycle. Repeat this process about one hundred times, so that there is a strong sensation of heat in the nasal cavity.
Second Technique: Hot finger kneading of the "Three Points"
After completing the first technique, rub your palms again until they are very hot. Then, use the middle fingertips of your left and right hands to knead the following three acupoints:
1. Ying Xiang point (depressions on both sides of the nostrils). Kneading method: Press the middle fingertips of both hands on the Ying Xiang point and knead forcefully for about one minute, until a sore sensation is felt.
2. Rubbing the nose tip (commonly known as the tip of the nose). Rubbing method: Use the middle fingertips of your left and right hands to pinch the nose tip tightly and rub forcefully for about one minute, until a strong sensation of heat is felt in the nasal cavity.
3. Kneading the Yin Tang acupoint (in the middle of the forehead, between the eyebrows). Kneading method: Press the middle fingertips of both hands on the center of the eyebrows and knead forcefully for about one minute, until a sore sensation is felt.
Third Technique: Hot palm rubbing of the face and nasal cavity
After completing the second technique, rub your palms again until they are very hot. Gently press and rub your palms on your face for a moment, and then use both palms to rub the face and nasal cavity vigorously from top to bottom repeatedly. Repeat this process multiple times. Both the face and nasal cavity should feel warm.
The two key points of the massage technique for rhinitis are: 1. It is necessary to rub the palms vigorously until they are very hot before starting the massage for it to be effective; 2. When massaging the bridge of the nose and the nose tip, there must be a sensation of dry heat in the nasal cavity for the best results.
