Traditional Chinese acupuncture is a long-standing and characteristic therapy that uses needle and moxibustion techniques to regulate the body and treat diseases. Common methods include moxibustion therapy and acupuncture. Below, we will introduce several methods of traditional Chinese acupuncture for treating diarrhea.
【Moxibustion Method 1】
Acupuncture points: Zusanli, Yinbai, Tianshu, Zhongwan, and Shenque.
Moxibustion technique: For Shenque, indirect moxibustion is used with a salt barrier, 5-7 cones per session. For other acupuncture points, direct moxibustion with moxa sticks is used without leaving scars. First, apply a small amount of Vaseline to the acupuncture point, then place a small moxa stick the size of a grain of wheat on the point and ignite it for moxibustion. When the patient feels unbearable heat and pain, replace the moxa stick. Moxibustion is performed on each point 5-7 times, once a day, for a total of 10 sessions.
【Moxibustion Method 2】
Acupuncture points: Tianshu, Zhongwan, Qihai, and Shangjuxu.
Additional acupuncture points: For patients with severe cold symptoms, add Shenque and Guanyuan points; for patients with heavy moisture symptoms, add Yinlingquan points; for patients with nausea and vomiting, add Neiguan points; for patients with frequent diarrhea, add Zhonglouyu points.
Moxibustion technique: For Shenque, indirect moxibustion with salt or ginger barrier is used, 5-8 cones per session. For other acupuncture points, mild moxibustion with moxa sticks is used, 5 minutes per point, once a day. This method is mostly used for cold and damp type of diarrhea.
【Moxibustion Method 3】
Acupuncture points: Tianshu, Neiguan, and Sanyinjiao.
Moxibustion technique: Both sides of the body are used for supplementation, and the needles are left in for 30 minutes. After removing the needles, warm moxibustion is performed using the sparrow pecking method with moxa rolls until the skin in the acupuncture area turns red. Once a day, twice for severe cases.
【Moxibustion Method 4】
Acupuncture points: Zhongwan, Shenque, Tianshu, and Zusanli.
Additional acupuncture points: For chronic diarrhea, add Pishu, Weishu, and Dachangshu points; for diarrhea occurring after midnight, add Guanyuan, Qihai, and Mingmen points.
Moxibustion technique: Mild moxibustion with moxa sticks is used, 5 minutes per point. Moxibustion with moxa cones can also be used, 3-5 cones per point.
These are the four methods of traditional Chinese acupuncture for treating diarrhea. Traditional Chinese acupuncture has a long history and has proven to be effective in treating various difficult and complicated diseases. As our country's cultural heritage, it should be promoted and used more widely.
