Effective Massage Techniques for Treating Chronic Rhinitis

January 23, 2024

Chronic rhinitis is a common disease with symptoms such as difficulty breathing, dizziness, headache, and nasal congestion and itching. The most uncomfortable part is the recurrent attacks, which can seriously affect daily activities and sleep. Apart from medication and diet therapy, traditional Chinese massage is also a good method for treating chronic rhinitis without changing the original meaning of the article or altering the format and elements such as images.

[Method 1]

1. Massage Yintang: Use the middle fingertip of the right hand to press on the Yintang acupoint, use the fingertip of the index finger to press on the right side of the bamboo acupoint (inner end of the eyebrow), and use the fingertip of the ring finger to press on the left side of the bamboo acupoint. Simultaneously, massage in a counterclockwise direction for 100 times.

2. Press Yingxiang: Use the side of the index fingers of both hands to press on the Yingxiang acupoints on both sides, and press each acupoint for 50 times.

3. Massage Suli: Use the palm of the right hand (Laogong acupoint) to press on the tip of the nose (Suli acupoint) and massage in a counterclockwise direction for 50 times. Then use the palm of the left hand to press on the tip of the nose and massage in a clockwise direction for 50 times.

4. Rub beside the nose: Place the proximal end of both hands' metacarpals on both sides of the root of the nasal bridge, and rub back and forth from the Yintang to the lips for 50 times.

5. Tap Chengqi and Sibai acupoints: Use the middle fingertips of both hands to tap on Chengqi acupoint (directly below the eyeball) and Sibai acupoint (1 inch below Chengqi acupoint) for 50 times each.

6. Facial bath: Rub the palms of both hands together until they feel warm, then use the fingertips of both hands to massage the face, including the nose, forehead, and cheeks.

Finally, you can also boil 15 grams of Astragalus root and 10 grams of jujube fruits in water and take it twice a day. This can enhance the body's immune system and reduce the occurrence of chronic rhinitis. It can achieve the effect of "treating internally and externally" when combined with the massage methods mentioned above.

[Method 2]

1. Rub the nose: Use the index finger and thumb to press on the upper end of the nasal bridge, and rub down until the local area feels warm.

2. Wipe the nose: Place the fingertips of the middle fingers on both sides of the philtrum. Rub back and forth along the lower philtrum for 18 times, or increase to 38 times in winter.

3. Pinch the tip of the nose: Pinch the tip of the nose with the index finger and thumb until the nose feels warm and the breathing is unobstructed. This method helps to disperse heat and lift yang, which is beneficial for the recovery of sinusitis.

4. Massage under the nose: There is Renzhong acupoint (the junction of the upper 1/3 and lower 2/3 of the philtrum) under the nose. Use the fingertip of the middle finger or index finger to massage in a clockwise direction for 60 times and in a counterclockwise direction for 60 times. Then, press deeper into the acupoint for 20 times. It is important to note that the fingertip must be close to the nostrils during the massage so that both the lips and nostrils can be massaged at the same time.

5. Press Hegu acupoint: Use the thumb and index finger of the left hand to massage the Hegu acupoint on the right hand up and down for 200 times, and then use the thumb and index finger of the right hand to massage the Hegu acupoint on the left hand up and down for 200 times.

This action can be performed once in the morning before getting up and once in the evening before going to bed, and can also be done in other free time. This method can dredge the meridians, enhance local blood circulation, greatly strengthen the nose's ability to withstand cold, effectively prevent colds and nasal diseases, and also treat colds and nasal congestion.

[Method 3]

1. Preparation: Use the fingertips of both hands' index fingers to press and rub along both sides of the nose for 200 times, until the nose feels warm.

2. Massage Shangyingxiang acupoint (on both sides of the nose, above the nasolabial groove) for 200 times using the fingertips of both hands' index fingers. Shangyingxiang acupoint, also known as "nasal passage acupoint," will make the nose feel unblocked after massage, and then proceed to the following steps.

3. Massage Yingxiang acupoint (slightly off to the sides of the nose). Massage Yingxiang acupoint for 200 times using the fingertips of both hands' index fingers. There will be a sour and numb feeling during the massage.

4. Massage Hegu acupoint (between the thumb and index finger). Use the thumb and index finger of the left hand to massage the Hegu acupoint on the right hand for 200 times, and then use the thumb and index finger of the right hand to massage the Hegu acupoint on the left hand up and down for 200 times.

5. Massage Yintang acupoint (between the eyebrows). Massage Yintang acupoint 100 times. Yintang acupoint's main functions are to clear the head, improve vision, and open up the nasal passages.

When massaging, the pressure should be relatively strong, and there should be a sense of soreness. Massage once in the morning and once in the evening. Results can be seen within a week. It is necessary to persist in doing it every day, even after recovery, in order to prevent recurrence and prevent colds.
