How Many Acupoints Does the Human Body Have?

We have already discussed that acupoints are located on "meridians" - the pathways of energy. In the human body, there are 12 "regular meridians" (in fact, there are 24 in total due to left-right symmetry) that are considered the main meridians. In addition, there is a special meridian called the "Ren Meridian" in the center of the front of the body and the "Du Meridian" in the center of the back of the body, which run through the entire body. The acupoints arranged on these 14 meridians are called "regular acupoints," and there are a total of 365 of them.

This is already a considerable number, not to mention that there are also acupoints in other parts of the body. Acupoints outside of the meridians are called "extra acupoints," and later on, "new acupoints" were discovered. If all these acupoints are included, the total number of acupoints in the human body far exceeds 1000.

Even the most professional person cannot remember all the names of these many acupoints, let alone use them proficiently.

However, for the treatment of common diseases, you don't need so many acupoints. In fact, as long as you are familiar with the acupoints related to the specific condition, you can fully practice acupoint therapy.

What is important is not to memorize a large number of acupoints, but to find effective acupoints and use them skillfully. Therefore, this website focuses on regular acupoints and carefully selects acupoints that are particularly effective, combining them with symptoms or diseases. Everyone can practice acupoint therapy.
