  2. Method of locating the point

One inch above the Ren Zhui point, in the center of the suprasternal notch, sit upright with the head tilted back to locate the point.

The superficial layer contains the nerves on the inner side of the clavicle, and the subcutaneous tissue contains the sternocleidomastoid and jugular venous arch. The deep layer contains the brachiocephalic trunk, left common carotid artery, aortic arch, and brachiocephalic vein, among other important structures.

[Effects and Functions of the Tian Tu Point]

  1. Relieving cough through massage

If you press firmly on the Tian Tu point for 6 seconds, whether it is acute cough or the presence of foreign objects in the throat, the cough will immediately stop.

When using this method, you must exhale while applying pressure. It will take effect after repeating it three times. For children, you can reduce the pressure and increase the number of repetitions, and you will achieve the same result in relieving cough.

  2. Alleviating plum pit qi

Let the patient press the Tian Tu point with the index finger of one hand at irregular intervals (with moderate force), pressing it for more than 10 times each time, until they feel a local sour, swollen, and slightly painful sensation.

Continuing this treatment for 2 months, most patients will see obvious results after about half a month of pressing.

  3. Relieving hiccups

In traditional Chinese medicine, hiccups are caused by improper diet, which leads to the upward movement of stomach qi and the occurrence of hiccup. To relieve hiccups, you need to smooth the stomach qi and let the upward-moving qi return.

Using moxibustion on our Tian Tu point is also a good method for regulating hiccups. The Tian Tu point has the function of guiding qi, and moxibustion can relieve or suppress hiccups by guiding the qi out.

  4. Warm moxibustion for inflammation

When massaging the Tian Tu point, you can do swallowing movements and breathe, swallowing saliva. In addition to massage, applying heat to the Tian Tu point is also a good way to reduce inflammation.

Use a small cotton bag filled with soybeans, sew it tightly, put it in the microwave for two minutes, and place it on the Tian Tu point while it is still hot. This is a simple method of warm moxibustion.

  5. Treating colds in children

Since infants and young children have smaller bodies, parents can gently press the Tian Tu point in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction with the tip of their thumb or index finger, 2-3 times a day, for two minutes each time, to achieve obvious results.
