In life, massage is usually used to treat various diseases. Let's understand the effectiveness of the Shuiquan acupoint and how to massage it to treat menstrual disorders.
[Causes of Menstrual Disorders]
1. Emotional abnormalities causing menstrual disorders: Abnormal emotions, such as long-term mental depression, mental tension, or major mental stimulation and psychological trauma, can cause menstrual disorders, dysmenorrhea, or amenorrhea.
2. Insufficient menstrual flow or even amenorrhea caused by cold stimulation: Women can experience insufficient menstrual flow or even amenorrhea if they are exposed to cold stimulation during their menstrual period. Therefore, women should pay attention to keeping warm and avoiding dampness during their daily lives.
3. Menstrual disorders caused by dieting: Excessive dieting, due to insufficient energy intake, causes a large amount of fat and protein to be consumed in the body, leading to a disorder in estrogen synthesis and a significant deficiency, affecting the onset of menstruation, and even causing a decrease in menstrual flow or amenorrhea. Therefore, women who pursue a slim figure should not diet blindly.
4. Menstrual disorders caused by smoking and alcohol consumption: Certain components in cigarettes and alcohol can interfere with physiological processes related to menstruation, causing menstrual disorders.
[Introduction to Shuiquan Acupoint]
1. Standard positioning: The Shuiquan acupoint is located on the inner side of the foot, below the posterior aspect of the medial malleolus, at a point one cun (an inch) below the medial malleolus, in the depression on the inner side of the calcaneal tubercle.
2. Method of locating the acupoint: Sit upright with the foot hanging or lie supine. Locate the acupoint one cun below the Shuiquan acupoint, in the depression on the anterior upper part of the inner side of the calcaneal tubercle. Quick locating method: First find the Shuiquan acupoint (in the sitting position, push back from the medial malleolus to the depression between the calcaneal tendon), and measure one horizontal finger width below it. Press on the area where there is a sore and distended sensation, which is the Shuiquan acupoint.
3. Anatomy of the acupoint
Below the Shuiquan acupoint are the skin, subcutaneous tissue, flexor retinaculum, tarsal canal, and its contents.
The skin is innervated by branches of the saphenous nerve on the medial side of the leg. Veins in the subcutaneous tissue flow into the great saphenous vein, while those flowing backwards and outwards belong to the small saphenous vein.
The deep fascia is well-developed and locally thickened. It forms the flexor retinaculum between the medial malleolus, the talus, the calcaneus, and the navicular bone, and forms a tunnel-like tarsal canal between the ligament and the calcaneus.
The canal is further separated by fibrous septa that originate from the deep surface of the ligament, dividing the tendons and vascular nerve bundles passing through the canal.
Within the tarsal canal, the fibrous sheaths are arranged from front to back: posterior tibial tendon, long flexor tendon of the toes, posterior tibial artery and vein, and tibial nerve, long flexor tendon of the toes (m. flexor digitorum longus).
The posterior tibial artery and nerve, before entering the tarsal canal, give off the medial plantar artery and nerve, which supply the inner side of the calcaneus.
