How to Massage to Relieve Stomach Pain

Massage can relieve stomach pain? Some may doubt it, but traditional Chinese medicine believes that massage can indeed have a certain relieving effect on stomach pain. If you don't believe it, just keep reading.

Traditional Chinese Massage Techniques for Stomach Pain

1. Preparation before massage

Lie flat on the bed, close your eyes slightly, breathe evenly, overlap your right palm on the back of your left hand, and gently place the palm of your left hand on the lower abdomen. Lie quietly for 1-3 minutes.

2. Massage around the navel

Overlap your right palm on the back of your left hand, place the palm of your left hand below the navel, and gently massage the abdomen in a clockwise direction for 0.5-1 minute. It is best to feel the heat in the abdomen.

Benefits: Warm the meridians, dispel cold, and regulate Qi and blood.

3. Massage the lower abdomen

Overlap your right palm on the back of your left hand, place the palm of your left hand gently on the lower abdomen, and massage in a clockwise and counterclockwise circular motion for 0.5-1 minute, until the skin feels warm.

Benefits: Tonify Qi, strengthen Yang, and harmonize the heart and kidneys.

4. Push the midline of the abdomen

Overlap your right palm on the back of your left hand, press the root of your left palm on the xiphoid process (pit of the stomach), and push down along the midline of the abdomen to the navel. Repeat the action for 0.5-1 minute.

Benefits: Strengthen the spleen and stomach, and regulate Qi and blood.

5. Rub the Guanyuan point

Overlap your right palm on the back of your left hand, and press and rub the Guanyuan point with the palm of your right hand for 0.5-1 minute.

Benefits: Tonify Qi, strengthen Yang, and regulate Qi circulation.

6. Grasp the abdominal muscles

Use both thumbs and the rest of the fingers to grasp the muscles on both sides of the abdomen, and grasp from the upper abdomen to the lower abdomen for 0.5-1 minute.

Benefits: Regulate the middle, harmonize the stomach, and tonify the kidneys.

7. Push and rub the lumbar and sacral region

Sit up straight, place the palms of both hands on the same side of the lumbar and sacral region, and push from the waist to the sacrum for 0.5-1 minute, making the lower back feel warm.

Benefits: Tonify the kidneys, strengthen the waist, and regulate the tendons and collaterals.

8. Press the Neiguan point and Waiguan point

Place the index finger and thumb of one hand on the opposite Neiguan point and Waiguan point, and press and hold for 0.5-1 minute. Alternate between the two hands.

Benefits: Calm the mind, soothe the stomach, and regulate Qi.

9. Pinch the Hegu point

Place the tip of one finger on the opposite Hegu point, and the remaining four fingers on the palm. Gradually increase the pressure and pinch for 0.5-1 minute. Alternate between the two hands.

Benefits: Regulate Qi and intestines, and relieve spasms and pain.

10. Knead the Zusanli point on the foot

Lean forward, place the thumb pad on the Zusanli point on the same side of the foot, and the remaining four fingers on the back of the foot. Knead with appropriate pressure for 0.5-1 minute. It is best to feel soreness and swelling.

Benefits: Tonify the spleen, strengthen the stomach, and harmonize Qi and blood.
