Moxibustion can not only promote blood circulation, but also prevent and treat various diseases, and regulate uterine cold in women.

Moxibustion points for uterine cold

1. Guan Yuan point

Located three inches below the belly button. Moxibustion at the Guan Yuan point can enhance the body's yang qi, supplement deficiencies, and treat symptoms such as yang deficiency, weakness, and cold sensitivity. It has the function of nourishing and strengthening the body’s foundation, and supplementing the lower jiao.

2. Shen Que point

The Shen Que point is an important point on the Ren meridian. When there is imbalance of qi and blood yin and yang in the body, stimulating or applying medicine to the Shen Que point can help adjust the balance of yin and yang.

3. Ming Men point

Located between the second and third lumbar vertebrae, and also include the bilateral Shenshu points, which are 3 centimeters away from the midline of the back. Moxibustion at the Ming Men point can strengthen the kidneys and treat conditions such as menstrual disorders and habitual miscarriage in women with deficient cold.

4. Qi Hai point

This point is located in the lower abdomen, dividing the line connecting the belly button and the pubic bone into ten equal parts, and it is located at 3/10 of the distance from the belly button. Moxibustion at this point can prevent and treat menstrual disorders, excessive or prolonged menstruation, and infertility.

Traditional Chinese medicine methods for regulating uterine cold

1. Daily exercise

Brisk walking is the simplest method. Walking, especially on pebble roads, can stimulate the meridians and acupoints on the soles of the feet, promote meridian flow, regulate qi and blood, improve blood circulation, and make the whole body warm.

2. Menstrual care

Drink water boiled with brown sugar and mugwort leaves to warm the uterus, dispel coldness, and remove stasis. Drink brown sugar water for three days before menstruation to increase the discharge, ensure a clean menstrual flow, and invigorate qi and blood while warming the uterus.

3. Daily nourishment

Prepare a soup with ingredients such as goji berries, walnuts, longan, jujubes, mulberry berries, angelica, chicken blood vine, ginger, and chicken or lamb meat. The soup can warm the kidneys, assist yang, nourish essence, and promote blood circulation. Uterine cold constitution is characterized by insufficient yang qi, and symptoms of excessive heat or body heat are not likely to occur.

4. Herbal foot soak

Boil water with mugwort leaves, cinnamon, and Sichuan peppercorns, and use it to soak the feet. This has the effect of warming the kidneys, dispelling coldness, and promoting meridian flow.

Precautions for uterine cold moxibustion

1. Control the duration

Do not do moxibustion for too long at a time. Generally, it should not exceed one hour, with 30 to 40 minutes being the best. Excessive duration can cause dryness in the mouth and constipation, and may lead to blisters on the skin.

2. Consistency is key

For daily health moxibustion, moxibustion can be done on 2 to 3 acupoints, with each point being moxibusted for 10 to 20 minutes.

There are four time options: moxibustion every other day or moxibustion for two days and then take a day off; moxibustion 3 to 5 days a week; continuous moxibustion for 10 days and then take a week off; do not moxibustion continuously without rest, and do not only do moxibustion when you remember.

3. Focus your attention

When doing moxibustion, focus your attention. Distracted attention can easily result in burning oneself or damaging things at home. It is also more effective to focus on moxibustion and feel the heat of moxibustion with a calm mind, rather than doing other things at the same time.

4. Detoxify before moxibustion

Drink a cup of warm water that is slightly hotter than body temperature (never drink cold or icy water) before and after moxibustion. This can help eliminate toxins from the body.
