The Da Zhu acupoint, also known as Gu Hui, is a point where the qi and blood substances converge and transform into moistening qi, exhibiting the characteristic of "water moisturizes and descends".
The Da Zhu acupoint is located on both sides of the midline of the human body, below the first thoracic vertebrae spinous process, 1.5 inches away from the midline on each side, for a total of two acupoints.
When locating the acupoint, you can slightly lower your head and sit or lie down in a prone position, and the point is located 1.5 inches away from the midline below the first thoracic vertebrae spinous process.
The Da Zhu acupoint can stimulate the yang qi of the whole body, with the functions of promoting yang, dispelling cold, activating blood circulation, and regulating meridians. It is often used in combination with the Wei Zhong acupoint (located at the midpoint of the popliteal crease) to treat back pain.
For patients with back pain, pressing and touching near the Da Zhu acupoint can often find a cord-like structure. Pressing and massaging this area with the thumb for about 5 minutes, until a local soreness and swelling sensation is felt, can relieve symptoms.
The Da Zhu acupoint is also effective in treating knee joint pain. According to the book "Su Wen · Bone Pain Theory", "If the knee pain cannot be flexed or extended, treat the back inside, and the Da Zhu acupoint is located on the back inside." Acupuncture at the Da Zhu acupoint can regulate the circulation of qi and blood, strengthen tendons and bones, and treat patients who have difficulty standing for a long time due to knee joint pain.
In addition, the Da Zhu acupoint is the convergence point of moisture qi. Acupuncture at the Da Zhu acupoint can regulate the bladder, sanjiao, and small intestine meridians, and promote the elimination of dampness. It is often used in combination with the Yang Ling Quan acupoint, which is the "tendon meeting" point in the eight meeting points, to treat both tendons and bones.
Furthermore, the Da Zhu acupoint can improve the function of the lungs, as it is located in the back and in front of the lungs. It can regulate the local circulation of the organs' qi and promote the circulation of lung qi. It is often used in combination with the Chi Ze acupoint, which is the confluent point of the Hand Tai Yin Lung meridian, to treat cough and asthma.
