January 11, 2024

Headaches and dizziness are common health issues that many people face. When confronted with these symptoms, most people feel helpless and unsure of how to relieve them. Traditional Chinese medicine recommends trying massage techniques to improve the situation. Below, we will share a few acupoints for alleviating headaches and dizziness.

Chinese Massage

1. Tianzhu Acupoint

Press and knead the Tianzhu acupoint located above the trapezius muscle in the back of the neck with the thumb and index finger for 5-10 times, twice a day in the morning and evening. This method has a good relieving effect on headaches caused by high blood pressure and cervical spondylosis.

2. Hegu Acupoint

The Hegu acupoint is located in the muscular area between the thumb and index finger. Press and massage this acupoint with kneading and pressing techniques until a noticeable soreness is felt, 10-15 times each session, 2-3 times a day. This method, commonly known as "holding the tiger's mouth," can effectively relieve various types of headaches.

3. Taiyang Acupoint

This acupoint is easy to find. Follow the edge of the eye to the corner of the mouth and feel for a depression. This is the Taiyang acupoint. When massaging this acupoint, start with light pressure and gradually increase the intensity until a soreness is felt. The soreness indicates that the qi has been activated, which is essential for treating ailments.

4. Yintang Acupoint

Flex the index fingers and place the thumbs on the temples. Use the inner side of the index fingers to gently rub the Yintang acupoint along the eyebrows, while naturally closing the eyes. The pressure should be light to moderate. Repeat this motion for more than 30 times each session, twice a day. This method, known as "separating yin and yang," can make the head clear and the eyes refreshed, effectively alleviating dizziness and reducing headaches.

5. Xinyu Acupoint

Press and massage the Xinyu acupoint on both sides using the index and middle fingers. This can treat dizziness caused by poor blood circulation. The Xinyu acupoint is located at the intersection of the inner edge of the scapular spine line and the midline. Count two vertebrae down and locate it 1.5 inches sideways.

6. Taichong Acupoint

It is often said that you can treat head problems by treating the feet. In traditional Chinese medicine, there is a special technique. On the foot, between the big toe and the second toe, there is a point. Push along this line until you can't push anymore. This is the Taichong acupoint. Pinch it with your hand, and you will feel soreness. This is the Taichong acupoint.
