The Benefits of Hair Massage
The desire to look beautiful is universal. Having hair that is lustrous, shiny, and elastic is something that many people envy. However, without proper care, hair can become dry, split, discolored, dull, and even lead to hair loss, causing people to feel uneasy.
The growth and maintenance of hair rely on the blood supply and nutrition in the scalp. Therefore, the overall health of a person has a direct impact on the quality of their hair. Hair massage can promote blood circulation in the scalp, providing more nutrients for hair growth and maintenance. It can stimulate the metabolism of hair cells and hair papilla, allowing hair follicles to receive the necessary nutrients for growth. It can also extend the lifespan of hair.
The head is where the meridians are concentrated and acupuncture points are distributed. It is closely related to the brain, organs, and blood. By massaging the head, not only can it improve blood circulation and nourish the liver and kidneys, but it can also stimulate nerve endings and regulate the functions of various organs in the body, promoting overall health and creating favorable conditions for hair growth and maintenance.
Therefore, hair massage can prevent hair loss, premature graying, dryness, split ends, discoloration, and other hair problems. With consistent practice, it can make hair lustrous, shiny, elastic, and beautiful.
Studies have shown that moderate scalp massage can stimulate the capillaries on the scalp, causing them to expand and improve blood circulation, supplying more nutrients and oxygen to the brain. With sufficient nutrients, the brain becomes more energized. Therefore, it is beneficial to do a scalp massage when feeling mentally and physically fatigued.
Methods of Hair Massage
[Procedure]
1. Stretch out the fingers of one hand and gently comb the scalp with the fingertips. Start by combing forward and backward, then left and right. Generally, perform this massage for 5 to 10 minutes. This method can also promote blood circulation and prevent cerebral vascular diseases.
2. Sit comfortably and gently tap the areas of the scalp with hair using the palm of one hand for 1 to 2 minutes. Note that the tapping should be gentle and slow.
3. Use the fingertip of the middle finger of one hand to press the Baihui acupoint on the scalp, then use the palm of the hand to press the Laogong acupoint.
4. Sit or stand, relax, and place both palms on the sides of the head. Focus your mind on the Baihui acupoint on the top of the head for 3 to 5 minutes.
5. Sit with relaxed shoulders and elbows, and let the hands naturally separate and slightly bend the fingers. The fingertips and pads of the fingers should apply balanced pressure to the hairline on both sides of the head, scratching and grabbing the roots of the hair from bottom to top, like a monkey scratching for relief. Repeat this motion and gradually move towards the center of the head. Then, cross the fingers and rub them together, repeating this action for 3 to 5 minutes. The technique should be flexible and orderly, providing gentle stimulation to the scalp and vertical muscle, with a deep but not heavy touch, going deep into the skin and gently massaging the hair without harming the scalp.
6. Loosen the hair and let the head naturally hang down, as relaxed as possible. Use the thumb and index finger to rotate and knead the scalp in a clockwise and counterclockwise motion, making the scalp relaxed. Then use the fingertips of the thumb and index finger to make a grasping motion on the scalp, swiftly moving on the scalp from the front to the back of the neck and the temples.
7. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that hair is closely related to the kidney meridian. You can gently press the Yangchi acupoint in the middle of the wrist for 2 to 3 minutes to regulate the autonomic nervous system and promote normal organ and kidney function. This can also promote normal secretion of scalp sebum and sweat glands. Then, use the fingers to gently press the Taixi acupoint on the ankle for 2 to 3 minutes to promote the secretion of female hormones and improve the nutritional content of the hair, making it shiny and elastic.
