January 5, 2024

We often hear the saying "You can only love others better if you love yourself first." Therefore, our body belongs to ourselves. By keeping our body healthy and reducing diseases, we can live longer and love others better. There is an English proverb that says "All roads lead to Rome." There are many ways to achieve longevity, such as diet therapy, exercise, or having an optimistic mindset.

  1. Zhongwan Acupoint to nourish the stomach and aid digestion

In traditional Chinese medicine, the Zhongwan acupoint is considered the "soul acupoint" for treating stomach diseases. It is the convergence point of four meridians in the human body. Massaging this acupoint can promote spleen and stomach health, tonify the middle energizer, and treat stomach diseases.

Firstly, the Zhongwan acupoint is located on the midline of the body, 4 inches above the navel.

Secondly, self-massage of the Zhongwan acupoint is generally done by rubbing and pressing. Place the palm of your hand on the acupoint and slowly massage in a circular motion until you feel heat in the stomach area. It can treat common gastrointestinal disorders such as bloating and diarrhea, as well as common stomach problems like poor appetite, belching, and hiccups.

Lastly, when massaging the Zhongwan acupoint, avoid doing it right after a meal to prevent pressure on the stomach.

  2. Taixi Acupoint to nourish the kidneys

In ancient times, the Taixi acupoint was known as one of the "nine acupoints for restoring yang" and it was mentioned in the book "Nine Needles and Twelve Original Points" that "the kidney, its origin lies in the Taixi acupoint." This shows the role of the Taixi acupoint in nourishing the kidneys.

Firstly, the Taixi acupoint is located on the inside of the foot, behind the ankle, in the depression between the Achilles tendon and the ankle bone.

Secondly, massaging the Taixi acupoint can be done using fingers or a smooth wooden stick (such as a chopstick). Rubbing and pressing is generally used, and it is best to feel a slight soreness. Massaging this acupoint has the effects of clearing heat, nourishing yin, tonifying the kidneys, and strengthening the lower back.

It has a certain therapeutic effect on symptoms caused by kidney deficiency such as lumbago and weakness of the limbs, kidney dysfunction caused by nephritis, and diabetes.

Lastly, when massaging this acupoint with a massage stick, do not apply excessive force to avoid puncturing the skin.

  3. Guanyuan Acupoint to balance your endocrine system

Aging primarily affects the endocrine system of the human body, and an imbalance in the endocrine system naturally leads to aging. When the endocrine system is imbalanced, the body's tissues lose the nourishment of various hormones, leading to natural aging.

In traditional Chinese medicine, the Guanyuan acupoint is believed to have the function of nourishing the source and strengthening the foundation, as well as tonifying the lower energizer. It can regulate the body's endocrine system, restore the vitality of the reproductive system, and treat diseases of the reproductive system.

Firstly, the Guanyuan acupoint is also located on the midline of the body, 3 inches below the navel.

Secondly, there are various methods to massage this acupoint, such as cupping, moxibustion, and rubbing and pressing. Rubbing and pressing the acupoint until you feel a slight soreness is generally recommended.

Furthermore, moxibustion on this acupoint has a tonifying effect on the kidneys for men, and for women, it can help remove coldness in the uterus and delay aging while regulating the endocrine system.

  4. Neiguan Acupoint to calm the mind and regulate qi

The heart is an important organ in the human body and plays a decisive role in blood circulation and nerve conduction. It is the key to whether a person can live longer.

In traditional Chinese medicine, the Neiguan acupoint is often used to calm the mind, regulate qi, and alleviate pain. It has certain regulating effects on symptoms such as chest pain, palpitations, chest tightness, insomnia, and numbness.

Firstly, the Neiguan acupoint is located on the wrist, 2 inches above the transverse crease of the wrist, on the palm side of the hand.

Secondly, massaging the Neiguan acupoint requires using the thumb of the other hand to rub and press. Feeling a slight soreness is ideal. Consistent massage can relieve symptoms such as chest tightness and palpitations.

  5. Massage Zusanli Acupoint as good as taking ginseng

Firstly, the Zusanli acupoint is located on the outer side of the lower leg, in the depression on the outside of the knee, 3 inches below the knee. It can also be located by measuring 4 inches below the front of the knee and then 2 inches to the side.

Secondly, massaging the Zusanli acupoint can be done using fingers or a massage stick. Cupping or moxibustion can also be used. Massaging this acupoint can be a bit stronger, and feeling a slight soreness is ideal. Zusanli can treat coughs and asthma in the respiratory system, as well as promote gastric qi and transform dampness in the digestive system. It also has a regulating effect on body weakness and pain.
