January 5, 2024

Insomnia can be a major problem for many people. Not being able to sleep at night and not being able to wake up in the morning can become a habit over time. However, the harm of insomnia is significant. Let's take a look at how traditional Chinese massage can help treat insomnia.

The Dangers of Insomnia

1. Organ Damage

Sleep at night is a way to help protect our body's health and allow our organs to rest. But if a person frequently suffers from insomnia, the organs do not get enough rest, leading to organ weakness and increasing the chances of developing diseases.

2. Slowed Reaction

Frequent insomnia can make it difficult for a person to concentrate, greatly affecting their work and studies. In addition, chronic insomnia keeps the body and mind in a tired state, making physical movements slower.

3. Obesity

Insomnia can increase the concentration of appetite hormones in the body, which can lead to increased food cravings. At the same time, women with insomnia have impaired insulin metabolism, leading to obesity.

4. Accelerated Aging

From 11 pm to 3 am is the time for beauty, when the body's meridians are running through the gallbladder and liver. If these two organs do not get enough rest, it will show on the skin, resulting in roughness, yellowish complexion, dark spots, and acne.

Traditional Chinese Massage for Treating Insomnia

1. Sanyinjiao (Three Yin Intersection)

Located on the inner side of the lower leg, 3 inches above the inner ankle, behind the shinbone. Massaging these three acupoints together for 5 to 10 minutes daily can help calm the mind and improve concentration.

2. Taixi (Kidney Meridian)

For those with kidney deficiency or excessive yin fire, massage the Taixi acupoint. This acupoint is located on the inner side of the foot, between the back of the inner ankle and the Achilles tendon. Regular massage can nourish kidney yin, strengthen kidney qi, and regulate the uterus.

3. Taichong (Liver Meridian)

Located on the top of the foot, where the big toe and the second toe meet, towards the back. Spend 10 minutes massaging this acupoint before bedtime, and if there is a clear sense of soreness, numbness, fullness, or pain, it indicates that the massage is effective. Regular massage of Taichong acupoint can help improve mood and alleviate insomnia.

4. Yongquan (Gushing Spring)

This acupoint is located on the sole of the foot, at the front indentation one-third of the way between the heads of the second and third toes, along the line connecting the toes and the heel. Massaging Yongquan acupoint has a good kidney-tonifying effect and can help nourish the kidneys and calm the mind. Regular massage also has the effects of strengthening the foundation and prolonging life.
