Understanding and Treating Lower Limb Varicose Veins: Causes and Scraping Therapy

January 2, 2024

Due to long periods of standing and high work pressure, it is easy to develop varicose veins in the lower limbs. Let's understand the causes of lower limb varicose veins and the treatment of varicose veins with scraping therapy.

Causes of lower limb varicose veins:

The main cause is the dysfunction of the femoral vein valves, and the primary dysfunction of the deep veins in the lower limbs.

Poor blood flow in the deep veins leads to compensatory dilation of the superficial veins, arteriovenous fistula of the lower limbs, and venous malformation hypertrophy syndrome.

Blockage of the inferior vena cava, such as Budd-Chiari syndrome, can also lead to lower limb varicose veins.

Long-term standing, sitting, exercise, or heavy work, as well as hormonal changes after taking contraceptive pills, can induce varicose veins.

Treatment of lower limb varicose veins with scraping therapy.

Start by using a hot towel to apply heat to the calves. When the calves are warm, apply red flower oil and rub it with your hands. Then, use a scraping tool to gently scrape the varicose veins, gradually increasing the pressure. This helps to unblock the meridians and improve blood circulation. Afterward, massage the bladder meridian and the Yanglingquan acupoint.

Precautions for lower limb varicose veins:

Avoid prolonged standing and heavy loads on the lower limbs. Avoid injuring or scratching the feet and calves excessively.

Perform proper leg exercises, such as lying on the bed and pedaling a bicycle, leg lifts, and leg flexion and extension exercises. These exercises can enhance leg muscle elasticity, promote blood flow, and alleviate varicose veins.
