Location of Ligou Acupoint

The Ligou acupoint is located on the inside of the lower leg, five inches above the inner ankle and in the center of the medial side of the tibia. When locating the acupoint, sit down and measure vertically from the inner ankle. Four horizontal fingers above the inner ankle is the Xuanzhong acupoint. From the Xuanzhong acupoint, go straight up two to three horizontal fingers to the concave area on the medial edge of the tibia, which is the Ligou acupoint.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the Ligou acupoint has the functions of soothing the liver and regulating qi, regulating menstruation and stopping leukorrhea, clearing heat, promoting diuresis, and relieving itching.

In clinical practice, it is commonly used to treat diseases of the genitourinary system, such as irregular menstruation, endometritis, vaginitis, urinary retention, etc. It can also be used to treat diseases of the nervous and mental systems, such as schizophrenia and neurosis.

It also has excellent effects on tachycardia and acute or chronic knee joint injuries.

Massage Techniques for Ligou Acupoint

(1) Many people may not be very familiar with the massage techniques for the Ligou acupoint. In fact, the massage techniques for the Ligou acupoint are very particular. We need to learn the massage techniques in order to massage the Ligou acupoint effectively.

Patients should adopt the most comfortable position (sitting or supine), and use the thumbs to press and knead the Ligou acupoints on both sides. Local soreness, swelling, and pain may occur. Then flex and extend the ankle joint to enhance the feeling of finger pressure, and then use kneading technique to relax.

Massage for 5-10 minutes each time. 2-3 times a day during the acute phase. Once a day or every other day during the chronic phase.

(2) Stimulating the Ligou acupoint can also be done with moxibustion. Use moxa sticks to gently warm the Ligou acupoint for five minutes, taking local warmth as the degree.

Combinations with Ligou Acupoint

(1) Ligou acupoint + Sanyinjiao acupoint can be used to treat irregular menstruation.

(2) Ligou acupoint + Chengshan acupoint can be used to treat calf cramps.
