Unlocking the Hidden Benefits of Tiantu Acupoint: From Respiratory Relief to Face Slimming

December 19, 2023

Tiantu Acupoint is located in the neck, on the midline of the body, in the central depression of the suprasternal fossa. It is one of the main acupoints on the Ren Meridian in the human body. Tiantu Acupoint is commonly used in modern medicine to treat bronchial asthma, bronchitis, pharyngitis, and other respiratory conditions. However, it also has another little-known effect, which is face slimming.

  1. Standard location:

Tiantu Acupoint is located in the neck, on the midline of the body, in the central depression of the suprasternal fossa. It is one of the main acupoints on the Ren Meridian.

  2. Acupoint location method:

Take a seated position with the head tilted back, and locate Tiantu Acupoint 1 inch above the jugular notch, in the center of the suprasternal fossa.

Rapid location method: Lie supine, and feel for a depression just below the laryngeal prominence. The center of the depression is Tiantu Acupoint.

  3. Anatomical description:

Below Tiantu Acupoint, there is the skin, subcutaneous tissue, the space between the left and right clavicular parts of the sternocleidomastoid muscle tendons, the superior aspect of the jugular notch, the left and right sternothyroid muscles, and the anterior mediastinal space.

The superficial layer contains the medial branches of the supraclavicular nerves, and the subcutaneous tissue contains the sternocleidomastoid muscle and the jugular venous arch. The deep layer contains the brachiocephalic trunk, the left carotid artery, the aortic arch, and the brachiocephalic vein, among other important structures.

Tiantu Acupoint has stimulating effects on the thyroid gland, which can accelerate the elimination of metabolic waste from the body and remove excess water from the face. To locate the acupoint, sit in a reclining position with the head tilted back, and find the depression between the two clavicles on the midline of the neck in front.

  Massage technique:

  1. Separate the five fingers of both hands. Place the ring fingers on the sides of the nose, the middle fingers below the occipital bone in the middle, and the index fingers above the zygomatic bone. Connect the index finger, middle finger, and ring finger in a diagonal line. Gently press the muscles around the zygomatic bone for 5 seconds per press, and repeat 2 times.

  2. Release the hands, stretch out the five fingers, and then make a fist. Use the second knuckles of both hands to continue pressing the previously pressed area for 5 seconds. Then, push and massage the muscles on the cheeks upwards and downwards until a significant burning sensation is felt in the face.

  3. Open the fists and move the fingers. Open the mouth and make a "ah" sound for 5 seconds, and repeat 4 times.

【Tiantu Acupoint Thread Embedding Treatment for Chronic Pharyngitis】

Chronic pharyngitis is a common and frequently-occurring clinical condition. Using Tiantu Acupoint for thread embedding treatment is based on the fact that Tiantu Acupoint is the intersection point of the Ren Meridian and the Yin Wei Meridian. It has the effects of clearing the lungs, benefiting the throat, and promoting the circulation of Qi to disperse stagnation.

Thread embedding treatment is a new therapy that combines acupuncture, thread, and needle stimulation. This therapy uses a needle to embed the thread into the acupoint.

The physical stimulation of the needle and the biochemical stimulation resulting from the decomposition and absorption of the thread have a dual effect on the acupoint, producing a gentle and lasting stimulation.

Modern medicine has confirmed that thread embedding treatment can improve the function of the reticuloendothelial system, increase the number of peripheral blood leukocytes, and enhance phagocytic activity, thereby exerting antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects.
