【Overview】

Hair loss can be divided into seborrheic hair loss and non-seborrheic hair loss. Seborrheic hair loss is caused by endocrine dysfunction, excessive secretion of androgens, excessive sebum secretion, distortion of the hair follicle opening, disruption of normal hair follicle metabolism, resulting in hair follicle atrophy, weak hair roots, gradual hair loss and thinning, itchy scalp, and oily hair. Non-seborrheic hair loss mainly includes diffuse alopecia, total baldness, and alopecia areata. The etiology of this type of hair loss is not yet fully understood, but excessive mental labor and psychological stress are believed to be triggers. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that this type of hair loss is closely related to insufficient liver and kidney function, deficiency of essence and blood, stagnation of liver qi, and blood stasis. This type of hair loss is generally characterized by dry and brittle hair, lackluster and yellowish appearance, and non-itchy and non-oily scalp. By applying different massage therapies based on the type of hair loss, hair loss can be controlled.

【Massage Therapies】

1. Seborrheic Hair Loss

(1) Lie down on your stomach. Your family member should place their palm on the Kidney meridian of the Foot-Shaoyin, using a light and brisk rubbing and wiping motion from bottom to top, repeating this process 10 times until there is a localized sensation of heat. Then, use the thumb to knead and press the Shanzhong and Gaohuang acupoints for 1 minute each. This method can regulate endocrine function.

(2) Lie down on your stomach. Your family member should place their palm on the Stomach meridian of the Foot-Yangming, using a pushing and wiping motion from top to bottom, repeating this process 10 times, and kneading and pressing the Zusanli acupoint 30 times. Then, follow the Bladder meridian of the Foot-Taiyang, using a pushing and wiping motion from top to bottom, repeating this process 10 times, and kneading and pressing the Feishu, Dachangshu, Weishu, Xiaochangshu, and Sanjiaoshu acupoints 30 times each. Finally, use the thumb to knead and press along the Yangming meridian of the hand, from the wrist to the fingertips. This method can eliminate excess sebum.

(3) Sit down. Your family member should use their right hand, with the fingers naturally curved like a plum blossom, to gently peck the scalp from front to back and left to right, similar to a chicken pecking at rice. The pecking time on the affected area can be longer, repeating this process for 10 minutes. Then, gently pat the head with the palm until the person with hair loss feels a warm and comfortable sensation on their scalp.

2. Non-seborrheic Hair Loss

(1) Same as "Massage Therapy (3)" for seborrheic hair loss.

(2) Sit down. Use one hand to sequentially press and rub the Shenting, Baihui, Nao Hu (1.5 inches directly above the Fengfu acupoint, Figure 6-2), Touwei, and Yuzhen (1.5 inches beside the Nao Hu acupoint, Figure 6-2), Jiaosun, and Yifeng acupoints 15 times each, inhaling when pressing and exhaling when releasing. Then, lightly rub each of the above acupoints in a clockwise and counterclockwise direction 15 times each.

(3) Same as "Massage Therapies (3) and (4)" for premature graying of hair in this chapter.
